Arthur Guinness (Anthony Boyle), the eldest, returns from London after five years. Edward, the second son, is already embedded in the brewery with plans to expand into the United States. Anne suffers a miscarriage during her travels but is saved by Sultan (Hilda Fay). Witnessing famine and suffering, she vows to redirect the Guinness fortune toward philanthropy. Her proposal, that 10% of profits should go to housing and feeding the poor, sparks a new direction for the family.

Arthur marries Lady Olivia Hedges-White (Danielle Galligan) in a union of convenience. Olivia, intelligent and quick-witted, understands the marriage as a business arrangement. Yet she begins an affair with Rafferty, complicating loyalties.

Edward, meanwhile, thinks more strategically. Across the Atlantic, their cousin Byron Hedges pushes Guinness into the American market. But his deal comes at a cost: 15% of profits are funneled to the Irish Republican Brotherhood.
Patrick, Ellen’s brother, is arrested. To save him from prison, Edward arranges for Patrick to be sent to New York, where he becomes a conduit for money flowing from Guinness profits to Fenian battalions in America.
Betrayals and Divides
Edward becomes romantically entangled with Ellen even as he courts Adelaide, his socially acceptable match. Anne’s health declines, but she pushes ahead with housing projects and social reforms. Arthur’s election is voided due to bribery allegations, though he avoids conviction. The family, increasingly fractured, faces growing external pressure from the Church through their uncle Henry Guinness, who tries to expose Arthur’s private life.
Olivia’s relationship with Rafferty deepens, shifting from a discreet affair into a genuine love. When she becomes pregnant, she travels to London for an abortion. Arthur, devastated by the betrayal yet unwilling to release control, renegotiates the terms of their marriage, tightening restrictions while Olivia secretly plans to keep seeing Rafferty.
Brewing Toward Conflict
Benjamin temporarily reforms, marrying a woman chosen by Aunt Agnes, but eventually slides back into drink and takes Christine, his first love, as his mistress. Years earlier, his family had refused to approve a marriage to Christine, and their disapproval pushed him toward the reckless habits that continue to haunt him.
Edward finally marries Adelaide, though he remains haunted by his feelings for Ellen.
House of Guinness Ending Explained
Patrick Cochrane eventually returns from New York, intent on killing Arthur. Ellen warns Edward, setting the stage for one last confrontation. She offers to help Rafferty track him down and have him arrested, but not killed.

The finale builds to election day, when Patrick infiltrates the voting hall with a gun. Ellen spots him and alerts Rafferty, but the shot rings out as the screen cuts to black.
