In This Episode: Hidden Truths and Neighborly Nightmares
A New Role at Bridgerton House
The episode begins with Benedict bringing Sophie back to London. To her utter mortification, her “new job” is serving as a lady’s maid for the Bridgerton family. Despite her initial hesitation, Benedict convinces her to accept the position. Violet Bridgerton welcomes her warmly, ignoring the whispers of the Ton, and Sophie is assigned to attend to Eloise and Hyacinth.
Sophie’s intelligence quickly shines through as she bonds with Eloise over literature, though this new friendship leaves young Hyacinth feeling a bit sidelined. Meanwhile, the domestic tension between Benedict and Sophie reaches a fever pitch when she helps him with his collar, a simple gesture that crackles with electricity.

The Wrong “Lady in Silver”
Violet, eager to see her son happy, believes she has found the masked woman: a neighbor of Alice’s named Miss Hollis. However, the “meet-cute” is a disaster. Benedict realizes instantly that Miss Hollis is not the one, and his only genuine smile during the entire tea service is reserved for Sophie when she enters the room.
Frustrated by Benedict’s interference in her professional life, Sophie pushes him to pursue Miss Hollis and move on. Taking her advice to keep his distance, a dejected Benedict moves out of the family home and into his own bachelor lodgings.

A Scandalous Proposal
The distance only makes the heart grow fonder. After sketching a portrait of Sophie, Benedict realizes he cannot stay away and rushes back to Bridgerton House. He finds Sophie alone as she prepares for a night out with the staff. The two share a heated, long-awaited encounter on the staircase.
In the emotional aftermath, Benedict makes a life-changing request: he asks Sophie to be his permanent mistress. It’s a proposal that highlights the tragic class divide between them; while he loves her, he cannot marry her, and Sophie is left speechless as her reality crashes down around her.

- A Grown-Up Gregory: Gregory returns from Eton looking much more mature, leading to some classic brotherly hazing involving shaving cream and jokes about his “childhood” favorite treats.

- Francesca’s Honesty: Continuing her quest for intimacy, Francesca tries a more spontaneous approach with John. After an awkward encounter in which she feigns satisfaction, she finally decides to be honest with her husband, leading to a deeper emotional connection between the two.

- Violet and Lord Marcus: Violet Bridgerton is finally putting herself first. She arranges a secret “evening tea” with Lord Marcus, even skipping a family dinner to enjoy her date. Her newfound confidence is a highlight of the episode.
- The Return of Michaela: Just as Francesca and John host the family, the arrival of Michaela Stirling shakes things up, adding a new layer of intrigue to their household.
- The Ultimate Cliffhanger: As the episode draws to a close, a carriage pulls up to the house next door to the Bridgertons. The new neighbor is none other than Lady Penwood, Sophie’s cruel stepmother. To make matters worse, she has hired the recently fired Varley as her maid. Sophie’s secret identity is now in more danger than ever before.
