Brothers Episode 7 Recap and Ending Explained: Matthew Learns the Truth

Brothers Episode 7, “The Interview,” finally gives Matthew an answer to the question that has been hanging over him and Woody. Unfortunately, Matthew learns the truth at possibly the worst moment, during an interview meant to announce his run for governor of Texas.

Brothers Episode 7 Recap: Matthew Prepares His Big Announcement

Matthew has a major morning ahead of him. Brian Williams is coming to the ranch to interview him, and Matthew plans to use the opportunity to announce that he is running for governor of Texas.

Woody is excited enough about the announcement that he interrupts Matthew and Valentina while they are trying to sleep, arriving in their bedroom with a glass of champagne.

On the way back to his bus, Woody trips over its sewage pipe. He believes he has put it back in place, but the following morning, everyone discovers just how badly that went.

The sewage has traveled down the hill and flooded Matthew’s barn, which happens to be the location chosen for the interview.

Matthew’s campaign manager now has to move everything to the main house and get it ready in time for Brian Williams’s arrival.

Then Little Woody finds the sewage.

Before anyone can stop him, the dog laps some of it up. He later finds Matthew and kisses his face, creating another problem for an interview that is already going badly before it has even started.

Matthew develops a severe case of pink eye.

Valentina thinks the interview should be called off, and Woody agrees with her. Matthew refuses. He still wants to make his announcement, so Woody tries to help keep the interview from happening quite as soon as planned.

Olive and Jimmy Get Some Unexpected Relationship Advice

Woody sends Olive and Jimmy to pick up Brian Williams.

Their drive gives Olive and Jimmy time to discuss their relationship and the problems between them, with Brian unexpectedly becoming part of the conversation. He offers them advice, and their “situationship” appears to be in a better place after the discussion.

They can only keep driving around so long before their passenger starts asking questions.

Brian eventually realizes that it is taking far too long to reach their destination.

Back at the house, Matthew still has no intention of abandoning the interview. With Brian Williams missing, he comes up with an alternative: Dax Shepard. Dax agrees to come over and conduct the interview instead.

It solves Matthew’s immediate problem, but something else has already happened inside the house that neither Matthew nor Woody knows about.

The Green Envelope Finds Its Way Back to Matthew

Kai and Wyatt discover the unopened green envelope while taking out the trash.

They believe it has been thrown away by mistake, so they rescue it and leave it in the kitchen.

Matthew’s campaign manager later notices the green envelope. She assumes it contains interview prep material and puts it in the interview folder.

No one realizes what has just been put directly in Dax’s path. Dax arrives, and Matthew prepares to go ahead despite the pink eye. He puts on a hat and sits down opposite him.

The interview begins as planned. Matthew lays out his platform and explains what he intends to do as he announces his run for governor.

Then Dax opens the green envelope and reads the test results. The interview immediately becomes about something very different.

Does Matthew Find Out That Woody Is His Brother?

Yes.

After reading the results, Dax asks Matthew about discovering that the man he believed was his father was not actually his biological father and that his best friend, Woody Harrelson, is his brother.

Matthew clearly was not expecting the question because he did not know the results.

Woody is also caught off guard. He had thrown the envelope away, but Kai and Wyatt unknowingly brought it back into the house. Ma Mac is surprised by what happens as well.

Matthew stops the interview and confronts his family. He then punches Woody and walks away.

The secret Woody chose to leave alone is out, except Matthew does not learn it from Woody or Ma Mac. He learns it from Dax Shepard in the middle of an interview that was supposed to introduce him to Texas as a candidate for governor.
