Brothers Episode 5 turns Valentine’s Day into a very bad day for Matthew and Woody, who somehow make forgetting the occasion only the beginning of their problems. While their marriages descend into pranks and an unexpected trip to jail, Wyatt and Kai have much better luck figuring out where their relationship is headed.
Matthew and Woody Forget Valentine’s Day
Matthew and Woody start the day excited about something they have bought: matching suits for themselves. They proudly show them to Val and Joy, who naturally want to know what their husbands have planned for Valentine’s Day.
That question is enough to expose the problem. Neither man remembered what day it was.
Matthew decides that humor can get him out of trouble and gives Val a framed, autographed photograph of himself. Unfortunately for him, Val has prepared something far more personal. She kept the napkin from their first date and had it framed as his gift.
Woody goes much bigger with Joy and arranges for a children’s choir to serenade her. It could have been the gesture that saved him until Matthew reveals that Woody was also interested in outdoing his friend. Val and Joy leave together, with both husbands firmly in trouble.
Making dinner becomes part of their attempt to fix the situation. Matthew also sends Wyatt to buy jewelry while he and Woody go grocery shopping for what they need.
Then Val calls with a much more serious problem. Matthew’s card is apparently being used fraudulently at a jewelry store, and the person using it is being arrested.
Matthew and Woody rush over and find Wyatt being put in handcuffs. There is no crime, though. Val and Joy arranged the entire scene as a prank to make their husbands panic. It works, but it also sets up a much bigger misunderstanding.

The Real Police Get Involved
With the prank over, Matthew and Woody head home with Wyatt and Kai. When they are pulled over, they assume Val and Joy are responsible for another setup. This time, the police are very real.
Matthew and Woody continue treating the situation as though they are participating in another elaborate joke, and they manage to get themselves arrested.
Calling home should provide an easy way out, except Val and Joy have exactly the same problem Matthew and Woody had moments earlier. After staging one fake arrest, they now assume their husbands are trying to get them back with a fake arrest of their own. They leave the two men in jail.
Matthew eventually has to turn elsewhere for help. His campaign manager comes to bail them out, although the rescue also brings restrictions on his future behavior.
For a Valentine’s Day that begins with two forgotten gifts, Matthew and Woody have managed to end up surprisingly far from the dinner they were supposed to cook.

Do Wyatt and Kai Get Together in Brothers Episode 5?
The younger generation has its own romantic problems in “Valentine’s Day,” although Wyatt and Kai eventually have a much more successful day than their parents.
Wyatt has started thinking about whether his friendship with Kai could become something more. Matthew encourages his son to take the chance, and Wyatt makes his first attempt while they are at the jewelry store.
Kai is caught off guard and punches him in the face.
Their next opportunity comes under equally unusual circumstances. While riding with the police after Matthew and Woody’s arrest, Wyatt and Kai talk about what happened and try again. The car hits a bump at exactly the wrong moment, leaving Kai with a bloody lip.
It takes getting back to the ranch for the two of them to have a moment without another accident getting in their way. Wyatt finds Kai in the bus, where they can finally talk openly about how they feel, and this time, they kiss.
After two painfully unsuccessful attempts, Wyatt and Kai end the episode having crossed the line from friendship into something romantic.
Brothers Episode 5 Ending Explained: Why Does Jimmy Come to Austin?
Olive’s romantic situation is far less settled.
She has been struggling with her breakup from Jimmy, and her father encourages her to consider moving on. Olive appears to be thinking about doing exactly that, but Jimmy has not given up on their relationship.
At the end of Brothers Episode 5, he arrives in Austin and attempts a romantic gesture inspired by Say Anything. His reason for coming is clear: Jimmy wants Olive back.
The episode does not give us Olive’s answer. Jimmy has made the trip and put his feelings out there, but whether Olive wants to reconcile with him remains to be seen.
