In Brothers episode 6, “The Dance,” Woody has the DNA results in his hands, but he isn’t ready to read them. While he puts off opening the envelope, Wyatt and Kai prepare for a school dance, and Jimmy waits for Olive to hear him out. Brothers Episode 6 Recap: Jimmy Waits for Olive
Following his arrival in episode 5, Jimmy stays nearby in the hope of repairing his relationship with Olive. By morning, he has set up a tent near the bus. He tries talking to Woody, although the conversation is uncomfortable.
Olive avoids him and directs her attention toward Woody’s DNA results instead. Woody points out that Jimmy is still waiting and wants a chance to explain himself. She eventually agrees to speak with him, but their conversation doesn’t settle the relationship.
Woody has his own conversation to avoid. The results have arrived, and he keeps the envelope unopened. With Kai getting ready for the dance, he puts it in his pocket and turns his attention to her.
Wyatt and Kai Get Some Unwanted Company
After their relationship begins to change in episode 5, Wyatt asks Kai to the school dance. The invitation becomes a family production involving the car and an outfit from Dazed and Confused. Kai accepts, but preparing for the evening makes her nervous. She has little experience with school dances, and Olive helps her choose what to wear.
Both fathers offer advice. Neither manages to make the situation much easier, and Matthew and Woody decide to accompany the teenagers to the dance.
Having their parents nearby adds to Wyatt and Kai’s discomfort. They like each other, but being together in front of everyone is unfamiliar. Further advice from Matthew and Woody does little to help.
Kai also hurts her foot after falling down the stairs while showing her outfit. At the dance, she finds somewhere to retreat. Matthew discovers her there and offers to leave her alone, but she asks him to stay. Their conversation helps, and he assists her before she goes to find Wyatt.
The evening ends with the two dancing together. They are still figuring out their relationship, but both want to continue it.
Woody Throws Away the DNA Results
After returning from the dance, Woody talks with Olive about her conversation with Jimmy. She then brings his attention back to the envelope.
He takes it out but decides not to open it. Woody doesn’t want the results to change what he already has, and he tells Olive he may never want to read them. He folds the envelope, throws it in the trash, and asks her to leave the matter alone.
Ending Explained: Does Olive Know the DNA Results?
The episode does not reveal what the test says. Woody chooses to remain unaware, but Olive’s response to his request is unresolved.
Throwing away the envelope reaffirms his decision to stop pursuing an answer. It doesn’t say that Olive accepts that decision or that the results are gone for good. The episode ends without showing her retrieve or read them.
