Last Seen Season 1 Episode 6, “The Choice,” brings Ian’s 15-year search for Mags to an end, although the reunion looks nothing like the one he has spent years imagining. Henry takes Mags back to his father’s compound as Jenna’s condition worsens, while Ian follows close behind and is prepared to do almost anything to reach his daughter.
Henry Takes Mags Back to the Compound
Jenna is still alive when Henry and Mags begin their journey, but her condition is getting worse. Mags wants to know what is happening and where Henry is taking them. He promises answers once they arrive and tells her that his father can heal Jenna.
Their destination is the religious compound where Henry grew up.
Ian is also heading there, although he does not know it yet. After finding Donald at the end of Episode 5, he forces him at gunpoint to help locate Henry. Donald knows where his brother is likely to go and insists that he wants to help Ian.
The two briefly cross paths with Henry and Mags at a gas station, but Ian is unable to reach them. His gunshot wound is slowing him down, and he is still losing blood.
Donald eventually stops so he can treat Ian’s injury. During that time, he tells him more about his history with Jenna and what he knows about Mags’ kidnapping. Most importantly, he finally reveals where Henry is taking her.
Ian continues toward the compound alone.
He is not the only person who has worked out their destination. Detective Pena discovers that Henry’s father’s compound was raided several years earlier and is now largely abandoned. The police head there as well.

Jenna Dies Before Henry Can Save Her
Henry reaches the compound believing his father can help Jenna, but they are too late; Jenna dies.
Her death leaves Mags grieving and still waiting for the answers Henry has repeatedly promised her. Henry instead becomes focused on Ian’s arrival. His father and the small number of armed men who remain at the compound prepare to defend the property, while Henry tries to keep Mags somewhere away from the confrontation, but she does not stay there.
Mags manages to get free and finds Ian. Her arrival saves him from being shot, but Henry’s father continues pursuing them even with Mags caught in the middle. That is where Henry finally turns against him.
When his father continues putting Mags in danger, Henry finds him and shoots him to protect her. Ian then gets hold of Henry.
After 15 years of searching, Ian finally has the man who stole his daughter at gunpoint. He is pushed close to killing him, until Mags intervenes.

Why Does Mags Stop Ian From Killing Henry?
For Ian, Henry is the man who kidnapped his little girl and stole 15 years of their lives. Mags has lived those same 15 years from an entirely different perspective.
She asks Ian not to kill Henry because, despite everything she now knows, Henry is still her father to her, so Ian lets him go.
It is a painful end to the reunion he has spent years fighting for. He has found Mags, and she now knows who he is, but that does not suddenly give them the relationship Ian lost when she was taken.
Henry leaves with Mags, although he does not get far. The police have arrived at the compound and are waiting for them.
Mags believes they can surrender. Henry chooses something else.
He gets out of the car carrying his rifle, deliberately provoking the police into shooting him. Henry dies in front of Mags.

Last Seen Ending Explained: Does Mags Return to Her Family?
Yes, but Last Seen does not pretend that finding Mags can restore the Ridley family to what it was before she disappeared.
With Henry dead and the police now in control of the situation, Mags is finally reunited with Debbie and Dean. They begin trying to find their way toward some kind of relationship after spending most of her life apart.
Ian’s place in that reunion is much less comfortable.
Mags stops him from killing Henry because Henry is still the man she considers her father. She has also seen how far Ian is prepared to go during his search for her. Finding his daughter therefore gives Ian the answer he has wanted for 15 years, but it cannot immediately give him his daughter back in the emotional sense.
His relationship with Debbie is also damaged after everything that has happened.
The finale leaves Mags safe and reunited with her biological family, while Ian has to accept that bringing her home is only the beginning. Fifteen missing years cannot disappear simply because his search is finally over.
