The Gentlemen Season 2 premiered on Netflix on September 4, picking up with Eddie and Susie firmly in business together but increasingly interested in doing things their own way. Across eight episodes, that ambition puts them at odds with Bobby, brings new players into their operation, and eventually leaves Eddie fighting enemies much closer to home than he expected.

Eddie and Susie Expand Their Business
Three months after the events of Season 1, Eddie and Susie’s operation has grown. They have another underground weed farm beneath a hangar and are expanding the same model into Italy, where their business brings them into contact with Francesco “Cico” Maldini and Contessa Isabella “Bella” Soranza de Parme.
Their Italian expansion also introduces Marco Moretti. After Moretti discovers what they are doing, Cico attempts to solve the problem by convincing Eddie and Susie to buy a Botticelli painting. They spend £16 million on it, only to discover that Cico owns the painting himself and arranged an attempt to steal it back from them.
Cico’s scheme ends badly for him. Moretti learns what he has done, Cico is fed to a tiger, and Eddie and Susie begin dealing with Moretti directly.
Eddie’s ambitions extend well beyond expanding the weed business. He wants a peerage and eventually gets into the House of Lords with help from Lord Hawthorne. Stanley Johnston also returns to Eddie’s life and continues encouraging him to think about what his family name and position could allow him to become.
That growing ambition soon creates a serious problem with Bobby.
Why Do Eddie and Susie Turn Against Bobby?
Bobby wants a proposed marijuana decriminalization bill stopped. Eddie sees things differently. Rather than protecting their existing operation by keeping marijuana illegal, he believes they could benefit from legalization and expand their business even further.
He initially starts pursuing the plan without Susie, but she eventually joins him. Together, they begin working behind Bobby’s back to gather enough support in the House of Lords to get the bill through.
Lord Hawthorne becomes central to the plan. Eddie and Susie first manipulate him into cooperating by making him believe he accidentally killed Mr. Takashi, even though Eddie and Geoff had already killed Takashi themselves. They later reveal the truth but continue using Hawthorne to help secure votes.
They get close. After solving a problem involving the Bishop of Sussex’s son, Eddie gains her support, while Hawthorne moves more peers toward their side.
Bobby realizes what they are doing before the vote can go their way. Organ John visits Hawthorne, supposedly to give him a massage. Hawthorne subsequently dies in what is presented as a heart attack followed by a fall from a window. Without him, support for the bill collapses, and the legislation is blocked.
Bobby now knows Eddie and Susie have been working against him. He orders Susie to stay away from Eddie and take a break from the business. Shortly afterward, Eddie is kidnapped, brutally beaten and thrown into a shallow grave.
That attack finally explains the mysterious scene that opened Season 2, when an injured Eddie was shown crawling through a field and following a series of X’s until he reached a road. Eddie survives, but his relationship with Bobby has been badly damaged.
What Happens Between Eddie, Susie, Bella and Joe?
Separating Eddie and Susie sends both of them toward other people.
Susie has reconnected with Joe Green, an old acquaintance who becomes both a romantic and business interest. The two begin building a cocaine operation connected to Vargas without Bobby knowing about it. Joe, however, hasn’t been honest with her.
Vargas had rejected a deal Joe and Hector wanted to make, but they went ahead without him. Joe eventually killed Hector, and Susie discovers his body at Joe’s apartment.
Rather than running away with Joe when their operation falls apart, Susie sends him back to Vargas in Peru. She then turns the disaster into an opportunity and secures her own legitimate arrangement with Vargas.
Eddie has become much closer to Bella. Their relationship turns romantic, and after surviving the attack that nearly killed him, Eddie travels to Italy and proposes; Bella accepts.
There are signs that Eddie’s decision isn’t entirely straightforward. Charly questions whether he is marrying Bella partly out of duty, while Susie asks Eddie how he became so certain about the marriage. Eddie connects his decision to what he experienced while escaping from the grave.
Susie attends the wedding in Italy and even reassures Bella that there is nothing happening between her and Eddie. Shortly before the ceremony, however, she warns Eddie about how far his ambition could take him.
She leaves before the wedding is finished. Eddie and Bella marry, but they never reach their honeymoon together.
What Happens to Bella?
After the wedding, Eddie and Bella decide to race to their honeymoon destination. Eddie takes Bella’s car while she travels by plane. As Eddie drives, Bella’s plane explodes in front of him.
Bella is killed, and Eddie has no idea who ordered the attack or whether he was supposed to be the real target.
The threat quickly reaches England as well. Armed men descend on Halstead while Eddie is away, cutting the power and phone reception before entering the estate. Geoff leads the defense of the house with help from Nanny and George. Charly, Sabrina and Tarquin attempt to escape, but Tarquin is kidnapped during the attack. Geoff and the others eventually kill the attackers and recover him.
Eddie has gone into hiding, but gunmen find him there too. Someone isn’t simply trying to hurt Eddie anymore. His family and everyone around him are now in danger.
Why Does Eddie Think Bobby Killed Bella?
Eddie captures one of the men involved in the attacks and tortures him for information. The man names Bobby Glass. Already furious over Bella’s death and everything that happened between him and Bobby, Eddie believes him enough to arrange Bobby’s assassination with Moretti. Susie has her doubts.
She confronts Bobby herself about Bella’s death, and he gives her a crucial piece of information: on the morning of Eddie’s wedding, Bobby bought Eddie’s debt from Stanley Johnston. Susie takes that information to Eddie. If Bobby now owns Eddie’s debt, killing him makes little sense. Eddie calls Stanley, who confirms that he sold the debt to Bobby. Eddie realizes he has made a serious mistake, but the hit on Bobby is already underway.
The assassin reaches Bobby in his sauna and shoots him in the arm, but Bobby manages to overpower and kill him. Eddie makes it there too, but saving Bobby doesn’t repair their relationship. Bobby may own his debt, but Eddie tells him he doesn’t own him.
Bobby nevertheless believes they still need each other, and Susie ultimately returns to Eddie’s side as they search for the person who actually killed Bella.
The Gentlemen Season 2 Ending Explained: Who Killed Bella?
The answer comes from an unexpected place: Freddy.
Sabrina tells Eddie that Freddy recently called home after having a bad dream about the family. Hearing about the call reminds Eddie of something that happened before his wedding. When Eddie visited Freddy to tell him he was marrying Bella, he also told him how Bella would be traveling to their honeymoon.
Freddy knew about the plane. That gives Eddie the connection he needs, and John Dixon turns out to be the other person involved.
Dixon’s involvement didn’t come out of nowhere. Earlier in the season, Freddy had supposedly undergone a spiritual transformation while away from his family; his spiritual sponsor was Dixon. Now the real purpose of that relationship becomes much clearer.
Why Did Freddy Betray Eddie?
Freddy still resents his younger brother.
Eddie inherited the title and Halstead, and Freddy believes both should have belonged to him. Rather than putting that resentment behind him during his supposed spiritual rebirth, he has been working with Dixon.
Dixon describes their actions as revenge when Eddie eventually confronts him. The betrayal has an enormous cost. Bella was killed shortly after marrying Eddie, Halstead was attacked, Tarquin was kidnapped, and Eddie himself became the target of armed men.
Eddie and Susie reach Dixon through Vargas. Vargas meets him inside a bonded warehouse, where Eddie and Susie eliminate the men protecting him and confront him. After hearing what Dixon has to say, Eddie leaves him alive, he has something else planned.
Does Eddie Kill Freddy?
Eddie returns home knowing his own brother helped cause Bella’s death.
Sabrina tries to convince him not to take revenge, but Eddie goes to see Freddy anyway. During a walk together, he confronts him with what he has discovered.
Freddy initially denies it, so Eddie beats him, and a van eventually arrives. With Eddie holding him at gunpoint, Freddy begs his brother not to kill him; Eddie doesn’t. When the van doors open, Dixon is inside, bound and gagged. There is also a man holding a chainsaw; Freddy is forced into the van with him.
The doors close, and the chainsaw starts. When they open again, Freddy emerges covered in blood with Dixon’s severed head in his hands. Eddie has spared his brother’s life, but he has forced Freddy to kill the man he worked with to betray him. Freddy is therefore still alive by the end of Season 2.
Where Does Everyone Stand at the End of The Gentlemen Season 2?
Eddie has lost Bella and discovered that his own brother helped cause her death. His ambitions have taken him much deeper into the criminal world, while his debt now belongs to Bobby Glass.
Susie is working with Eddie again after spending part of the season separated from him. Her relationship with Bobby has also become more complicated, and she has established her own connection with Vargas.
Bobby survives Eddie’s attempt to have him killed. He owns Eddie’s debt and remains convinced that Eddie and the Glass family still need each other.
Freddy survives despite betraying his brother. Eddie doesn’t kill him, instead forcing him to kill Dixon.
John Dixon is dead. Freddy kills him with a chainsaw and emerges from the van carrying his severed head.
Bella is dead after the attack on her plane immediately following her marriage to Eddie.
Charly, Nanny and Tarquin are preparing to leave Halstead temporarily after the attack on the estate put their family in danger.
Moretti remains connected to Eddie through their business dealings and helped him arrange the attempted hit on Bobby.
Stanley Johnston remains involved in Eddie’s life and is responsible for selling Eddie’s debt to Bobby.
