The Gentlemen Season 2 premiered on Netflix on September 4, bringing Eddie and Susie back for eight new episodes filled with shifting alliances, betrayals, and a business that becomes even more dangerous as the season goes on.

The Gentlemen Season 2 Episodes
Episode 1 “The Road to Kingdom”
The season opens three months ahead, and Eddie is in terrible shape. He is injured, unable to walk, and dragging himself across a field when he finds a note telling him to “Follow the X.” Whatever brought him there will have to wait. The episode jumps back three months, when his biggest concern is regaining full control of the Halstead estate.
The business Eddie and Susie built together has grown considerably. They have bought a hangar that serves as another underground weed farm and a way to clean money, while the same model is being expanded beneath large estates in Italy. Susie visits the hangar with Jack as their Italian connection, Francesco “Cico” Maldini, arrives with Contessa Isabella “Bella” Soranza de Parme.
Cico and Bella soon join Eddie and the others at Halstead for a shooting party. Lord Hawthorne is among the guests, and Eddie has his own reason for keeping him happy. He wants a peerage, and Hawthorne could help him secure it. Susie is less convinced about Cico, and Eddie has reservations about working with him too.
Aisha, a friend of Susie’s, arrives with Prince Amir bin Abdullah al-Hadidi before the shooting begins. Cico’s behavior quickly becomes difficult to ignore. He gets angry with Bella for looking at Eddie, only to be knocked unconscious when the next bird she shoots falls directly onto his head.
The reason for Cico’s visit is much more serious. Marco Moretti has discovered their Italian operation and wants €40 million a year for allowing it to continue. Cico believes he has a way to satisfy him: they should buy Botticelli’s The Virgin and Child Enthroned.
That night, Eddie works on another deal. Hawthorne knows exactly what he wants and asks for £30,000 in exchange for his endorsement. He also wants Jack included in the arrangement because of his sexual interest in him.
Bella, in the meantime, tells Eddie more about how she and Cico met, giving him further reason to question the man they are supposed to trust. Cico hardly helps himself at dinner when he spits out a glass of wine and insists it is corked. Nanny, Charly’s partner and the father of her son, also joins the family for dinner, while Freddy is absent as he recovers from his latest excesses.
Eddie later gets Cico alone under the excuse of choosing another bottle and confronts him. The wine was not corked, and his decision to give Bella a tiger as a present only adds to Eddie’s doubts about him. Eddie and Susie compare what they have learned and discuss both the Botticelli purchase and the possibility of using Jack to secure Hawthorne’s support.
Their next stop is Bobby. During a meeting in the sauna, he tells them about the Bannik, a spirit that supposedly answers a question with either a pat or a scratch on the back. Bobby has already asked whether they should buy the Botticelli for Moretti, and the answer was positive. He wants the deal done. He also pushes them to finish their arrangement with Hawthorne so Eddie can get into the House of Lords.
Eddie and Susie therefore head to the auction for the Botticelli. Susie runs into Joe Green, an old acquaintance who still appears interested in her, something Eddie notices. Once the auction starts, however, their attention shifts to an unknown bidder participating by phone.
The price climbs far beyond what they expected. Eddie wants to stop, but Bobby refuses to let them walk away, and they eventually secure the painting for £16 million.
They barely make it out of the auction before someone tries to take it from them. A group of men on bikes attacks as Eddie and Susie leave, and Susie loses hold of the painting. One of the thieves grabs it and takes off, but Geoff, Jack, and the rest of the team pursue them.
The thieves are taken down one after another until the man carrying the Botticelli is cornered. He gives them the name Robert Brooks, who is soon chained up and questioned about who ordered the robbery. Robert says he was helping an Italian friend called Gino de Bambi. When Eddie shows him a photograph, Robert confirms they have the right man. Gino de Bambi is Cico.
Eddie and Susie travel to Italy and meet him at Bella’s estate, supposedly to arrange a meeting with Moretti. Cico has not actually contacted him, so Eddie and Susie have done it themselves. They confront Cico with what they discovered: the Botticelli belongs to him, and he was behind the attempt to steal it after they paid £16 million to acquire it.
Moretti now knows the truth as well. Cico ends up being fed to the tiger, while Eddie and Susie cut a deal directly with Moretti.
Back in England, Bobby returns to the Bannik with a different question. This time, he asks whether the Duke can be trusted. The answer is a scratch.
Episode 2 “There’s a Rat in the Kitchen”
Eddie’s ambitions are getting bigger. He meets Stanley Johnston inside a cathedral, where their conversation turns to history, the monarchy, and a sheepskin parchment connected to Eddie’s ancestors. Stanley sees something in Eddie that could solve their problems, and the idea of that kind of power follows Eddie into a disturbing dream. He imagines himself sitting on a throne with a crown on his head before suddenly appearing to ignite.
His more immediate concern is the arrangement he made with Moretti. Eddie travels to Italy and proposes a plan involving the bill to decriminalize marijuana. Bobby wants the legislation stopped, but Eddie sees an opportunity in allowing it to pass. Moretti is willing to consider the idea if Eddie can actually get the bill through. He also has work for him in London and asks Eddie to deal with some people on his behalf.
Back at Halstead, the attempt to win over Lord Hawthorne isn’t going particularly well. Jack’s night out with him started with Jack setting clear boundaries before the pair went to a party. Hawthorne tried to keep his attention with alcohol and drugs while Jack spent his time talking to women instead. Hawthorne is now unhappy and wants more money for his cooperation.
Bobby refuses to entertain the new demands, creating another disagreement between him and Eddie over how they should handle Hawthorne. Susie follows her father’s instructions and meets Hawthorne herself to put pressure on him.
At the same time, Eddie and Geoff are carrying out Moretti’s favor. Their first problem is Mr. Takashi, who has been torturing a man for information. He doesn’t stop until the man is dead, although they do get the address they need for their next target.
Susie has no idea what Eddie is really doing. She spends some time with Joe, who offers her a professional opportunity as they catch up over a game of pool. She isn’t interested in working with him, but their reunion does become personal when she takes him home.
Eddie has company waiting for him too. After he and Geoff dispose of the body, he returns home to find Bella there. Moretti has chosen her to replace Cico, and she and Eddie agree to start their new working relationship without allowing what happened to Cico to become an issue between them.
Eddie’s increasingly secretive behavior soon starts bothering Susie. When she asks him to handle another meeting with Hawthorne, and he claims he can’t, she sends Gabrielle to find out what he is doing. Gabrielle follows Eddie, Geoff, and Mr. Takashi to a cottage and reports their location back to Susie.
Elsewhere, Sabrina and Charly visit Freddy, who has undergone a dramatic change during his time away. He tells them he has been spiritually reborn and acknowledges how badly he has behaved as both a brother and a son. Neither woman is convinced that bringing him home is a good idea. They make their excuses and leave, both sensing that something isn’t right about Freddy’s transformation.
Bella also meets Susie and delivers Bobby’s payment for the Botticelli. She wants Susie to teach her about the business now that she has taken Cico’s position. Instead, Susie directs her toward Eddie, making the hierarchy clear: when it comes to Bobby’s operation, she outranks him.
At the cottage, Eddie’s job for Moretti takes another turn. Their next target is an accountant, but Eddie discovers that the man’s wife and children are there. Mr. Takashi still wants to proceed. Eddie refuses, and he and Geoff strangle Takashi instead.
Eddie gives the accountant a chance to send his family away, but the man still expects to be killed and begs for his life. Eddie points a gun at him but hesitates. The accountant fights back, and Eddie shoots him dead.
Susie is waiting when Eddie returns, and by now there is no hiding what he has been doing. Mr. Takashi’s body is in his car, but Eddie has found a use for it that also solves their Hawthorne problem. He and Susie drug Hawthorne and put the corpse in his bed, leaving the peer desperate enough to call them for help.
Only then does Eddie tell Susie the rest of his plan. He has been working behind Bobby’s back to get marijuana decriminalized, believing they can benefit from the change rather than fight it. He says he intended to bring Susie into the plan once he knew he could make it work.
The scheme gets Eddie what he wanted from Hawthorne, and he is sworn in. But another familiar threat has quietly returned elsewhere. Freddy’s spiritual sponsor is revealed to be Dixon.
Episode 3 “Do You Reject Satan?”
Killing the accountant is starting to weigh on Eddie. Standing alone in a field, he imagines the dead man beside him with the gunshot wound still visible. Geoff’s arrival pulls him out of it, but the image isn’t going away easily.
Eddie has also set his sights on buying the MacDougall estate, a property with a personal connection to his family. He discusses the purchase with his lawyer Ahmed, although getting the current owner to sell will prove harder than expected.
There are changes within the Horniman family too. Charly and Nanny ask Eddie to become Tarquin’s godfather, an offer he happily accepts. Charly would like Geoff to be the second godfather, while Nanny has a rather more ambitious candidate in mind: the King. The family also wants Eddie to visit Freddy, who remains away following his supposed spiritual rebirth.
Eddie and Susie have more immediate problems underground. Their latest conversation about pushing ahead with marijuana decriminalization despite Bobby’s opposition is interrupted when Jimmy calls about trouble at the weed farm.
Production has slowed because the workers are supporting a colleague who suffered an adverse reaction during a clinical trial and couldn’t get the care they believe he needed because of his benefits. Ned speaks for the group and demands better pay and benefits.
Eddie and Susie aren’t willing to let their employees dictate the terms. They return with a final offer and make the alternative very simple: accept it or everyone loses their jobs. Ned then receives a much more personal warning at gunpoint. If he takes the deal and keeps quiet, he can walk away alive, so he does. The confrontation solves the immediate problem, but it also creates a much bigger one.
Susie visits Bobby, who has heard rumors about her. She initially has reason to worry that he has discovered their plan to support decriminalization behind his back, but that isn’t what he means. Bobby has heard about Joe Green and warns his daughter against getting involved with him.
Eddie’s secret arrangement with Moretti is becoming more complicated too. During a call with Bella, he sees the dead accountant again. Bella tells him that the man really was innocent. He was only a witness, which was why Moretti wanted him dead. She also raises another problem: Mr. Takashi has disappeared. Bella seems to suspect there is more to that story, although she doesn’t tell Moretti anything.
Eddie then turns his attention back to the MacDougall estate. Simon MacDougall won’t sell, even when Eddie offers £19 million, and his refusal is personal. He resents the Hornimans for repeatedly failing to respond to his family’s invitations and has also heard rumors about what goes on at Halstead. Eddie leaves him with the warning that he isn’t giving up.
Ned isn’t ready to move on from his own humiliation either. Encouraged by one of his friends, he helps steal barrels of weed from the farm. Geoff spots their van leaving while walking with Charly, but they escape with the product.
The stolen weed ends up with Victor, and Ned has taken far more than originally planned. He is also willing to give Victor information about the Glass operation, turning a workplace dispute into a direct threat to the business.
It doesn’t take long for Eddie and Susie to notice that stock is missing. Geoff’s sighting points them toward Ned, while Jimmy gives them another reason to recover the barrels quickly. The stolen weed is experimental and isn’t ready to be sold because it can cause severe side effects.
By the time they reach Ned’s house, he is gone. They also discover that he has apparently been taking product from them for longer than they realized.
Victor soon contacts them about getting their weed back, but Ned doesn’t survive his new partnership. Victor kills him and criticizes one of his own men for the way they tried to extract money from Bobby Glass.
Eddie and Susie bring the situation to Bobby. His solution is to refuse any negotiation, wait for Victor’s people to start moving the product, and kill them. Susie agrees with Eddie that starting a war would be bad for business, so they decide to take part of Bobby’s advice while also arranging a meeting with Victor.
Susie demands the return of their product when they sit down with him. Victor freely admits that he killed Ned, then goes a step further and offers to work for them.
Eddie responds by dropping his cigar. It appears to be a signal, as a sniper immediately begins taking out Victor’s men. With his position considerably weaker, Victor receives Susie’s final warning to give them back the weed.
With that problem contained, the Hornimans gather for Tarquin’s baptism. Before the ceremony, Sabrina gives Charly a small bird figurine from Geoff, one Charly had given him when she was a child. The gesture changes her mind about the godparents. She asks Nanny to abandon the idea of having the King involved, since he can’t attend the event, and chooses Geoff instead. Eddie officially becomes Tarquin’s godfather, with Geoff beside him.
After the baptism, Eddie and Susie turn back to the plan they have been quietly building against Bobby’s wishes. If they are going to get the decriminalization bill through, they need more support. It’s time to start gathering peers.
Episode 4 “The Bigger Picture”
Eddie and Susie continue pretending they are on Bobby’s side. They meet with him and Hawthorne about the decriminalization bill and agree that it should be stopped. Once Bobby is gone, however, they tell Hawthorne the truth. They need the bill to pass, and Hawthorne warns them that the Bishop of Sussex could stand in their way.
Eddie approaches the Bishop with an offer involving her son, Oscar Thorne. Oscar has borrowed money from his mother to deal with his debts, then disappeared after asking her for money a second time. Eddie offers to find him and solve his problem if the Bishop supports the bill.
Finding Oscar is relatively easy. Eddie and Susie pay off his head of security and gain access to the estate where he has been conducting experiments on birds. His financial situation, however, is considerably harder to fix.
Oscar owes £50 million, plus interest, to cocaine dealer and fight promoter Pat Gallagher. Pat had agreed to forget the interest in return for a favor. Because he cannot leave the country, he asked Oscar to obtain a rare white saker falcon worth £1 million that could eventually provide him with a way back to the Middle East.
Oscar got the bird, then decided to use it for breeding. According to the story Eddie and Susie are given, the female falcons ate the valuable male. Pat now expects Oscar to replace it before the end of the week, or he will kill him.
Back at Halstead, Jack inadvertently gets closer to discovering what Eddie and Susie have been doing. Hawthorne confides in him about his guilt over Takashi’s death. Jack reassures him, but Hawthorne mentions the plan to pass the bill, immediately raising Jack’s suspicions.
Bobby is growing suspicious too. He calls Susie about Hawthorne and the upcoming vote, although she insists there is nothing unusual happening. Bobby doesn’t buy it and asks Jack to bring in Organ John.
Eddie, meanwhile, discovers that Oscar hasn’t told them the full story about the falcon. His head of security, Aslan, admits he stole it. Eddie offers to pay him for the bird, but Aslan is giving the falcon back; since he removed its hood, the falcon takes off, scared by a drone, and disappears.
Their search for the bird has to wait while Eddie and Susie spend an evening with Bella and Joe. What begins as a successful double date becomes tense when some of Joe’s old acquaintances approach them. Joe reveals the gun under his clothes, but Eddie prevents the confrontation from going further by paying them off.
Bella uses the evening to question Susie about Eddie. Susie insists that she wouldn’t risk their business partnership by becoming involved with him. Eddie later has his own warning for Joe about Susie and his behavior. Before the night is over, Joe attacks one of his old acquaintances anyway, leaving Eddie to hand an employee money before the group leaves.
The situation with Hawthorne is also falling apart. His guilt over Takashi has become too much, and he calls Susie about what happened. She finally tells him the truth: he never killed Takashi. Eddie and Susie drugged him and staged the scene to make him believe that he had. Knowing the truth doesn’t free Hawthorne from them, as Susie continues using the situation to keep him cooperating with their plan.
The missing falcon proves easier to solve than expected. Bella uses a female falcon to call the male back, and the bird returns almost immediately. Giving it to Pat settles Oscar’s debt problem and gets Eddie what he needs from the Bishop.
Their work appears to have paid off. Hawthorne succeeds in moving enough support toward Eddie and Susie’s side of the marijuana vote, although he tells Susie that he wants nothing more to do with her once their arrangement is finished.
Susie is already dealing with another complication. She sees Eddie and Bella growing closer, unaware that the two later slip away and sleep together.
Before the vote can deliver the result Eddie and Susie have been working toward, Bobby makes his move. Organ John visits Hawthorne under the pretense of giving him a massage. Hawthorne subsequently dies in what is presented as a heart attack followed by a fall from a window.
His death changes the vote. The peers who had been supporting the bill switch sides, and the legislation is blocked, giving Bobby exactly the outcome he wanted.
Moretti is furious and calls Eddie while he is on his way to face an even angrier Bobby. Eddie and Susie have been caught working against him, and Bobby isn’t interested in hearing Eddie’s explanation. Susie stands with Eddie as the argument escalates, while Jack watches his father and Eddie go at each other.
Once Bobby calms down, he sends Eddie and Jack out and deals with Susie privately. He orders his daughter to stay away from Eddie until he says otherwise and tells her to take a break; Susie is obliged to accept his decision.
Eddie doesn’t get the same opportunity to quietly disappear. Soon afterward, unknown figures throw a bag over his head and take him away.
Episode 5 “A Suburban A-Road on the Outskirts of Basingstoke”
The men who grabbed Eddie at the end of the previous episode take him to a field in the middle of the night, where a grave is already waiting. They beat him, throw him inside with a bag over his head, and leave him there alive.
The opening scene from the season premiere now falls into place. Eddie pulls himself out of the shallow grave and crawls through the field until he finds the note telling him to follow the X’s. He keeps going through the rain and eventually reaches the side of a road, where a passerby finds him the following morning.
Eddie survives, but the attack leaves him with two broken legs, a broken arm, and several other injuries. His family has been told he was involved in a car accident. Nanny believes he should go to the police, while Eddie shuts himself away in his room as he recovers and refuses to see anyone.
Susie isn’t there. She has gone to Peru with Joe, where the two are taken to meet Mr. Vargas at his cocaine farm. Joe has already been working with Vargas, and Susie wants to build a business moving his cocaine. Like the decriminalization plan before it, she is doing this without Bobby’s knowledge.
Back in England, Bella becomes the first person Eddie allows into his room. She hasn’t only come to see how he is doing. Moretti still expects Eddie to repay the millions he owes from their failed investment, and the deadline is the end of the month. Bella offers to try to buy him more time, but Eddie insists he will find the money himself. Before leaving, she also tells him that she loves him.
His options are limited. Eddie’s lawyer can’t find an easy solution, and Geoff warns him against retaliating against Bobby after Sabrina shares her fears about what could happen next. Eddie eventually turns to Stanley Johnston for the money. He is willing to put the estate at risk to secure the loan, and Stanley agrees, once again encouraging Eddie to recognize what his family name could allow him to become.
Susie has considerably more success with her new venture. She and Joe approach Chucky about investing in his Japanese-Pakistani fusion restaurant, with the real business taking place behind it. The arrangement with Vargas starts making Susie a great deal of money, all without Bobby knowing what his daughter is building.
Her relationship with her father has changed after what happened to Eddie. When Susie visits Bobby, she is noticeably colder toward him.
The cocaine operation soon develops its own problem. Vargas’ men confront Susie over product that her team apparently had no right to sell and demand to speak with Joe. The agreement involving Hector wasn’t what Susie believed it was.
Eddie also tries to renegotiate with Moretti rather than simply repay him, proposing that they expand their business together. Moretti isn’t interested. He no longer trusts Eddie enough to take another risk and wants the money he is owed.
Later, while caught in traffic, Eddie gets out of his car and comes across a stone. The moment seems to restore some of the confidence he lost after the attack.
At Chucky’s restaurant, the dispute with Vargas’ men becomes dangerous. Joe offers Hector up in an attempt to stop them from driving a knife through Susie’s hand. She is forced to go to Joe’s apartment to find him, but Gabrielle intercepts the group while disguised as a worker. Jack then arrives and shoots Vargas’ men dead.
The gunfire sparks another fight inside the restaurant between Joe and Arturo. Susie grabs a gun and returns inside, where she kills Arturo herself.
Jack helps dispose of the bodies, but Susie orders him not to tell anyone what happened. Joe believes their only choice is to run before Vargas retaliates. Susie initially prepares to leave, until Blanket tells her that Hector had been trying to find her. That changes everything.
Susie meets Joe at the airfield, where he expects the two of them to escape together. Instead, she confronts him. Joe had been lying to her since they ran into each other at the Botticelli auction. Vargas had rejected the deal Joe and Hector wanted, so the pair went around him. Joe then killed Hector, whose body Susie found at his apartment.
Joe insists that what he did was for the two of them and tells Susie he loves her. It doesn’t change her decision. Rather than leave with him, Susie puts Joe on a plane back to Vargas in Peru. She then uses the situation to secure a legitimate deal with Vargas for herself.
After Joe’s plane leaves, Eddie arrives at the same airfield before catching his own flight. He notices that Susie is upset, and she begins to cry. After everything that has happened between them and the distance Bobby forced between them, the two share this brief moment before Eddie leaves: his destination is Italy.
Eddie meets Bella and tells her about the attack that nearly killed him. Then he produces an engagement ring and asks her to marry him: Bella says yes.
Episode 6 “The Bells of San Domenico”
Eddie reunites with Freddy before leaving for Italy and tells his brother that he is marrying Bella. He also asks him to be his best man, but Freddy is still angry with Eddie and refuses.
The rest of the Horniman family travels to Italy for the wedding. Once there, Eddie meets Moretti, who gives him an antique map as a gift while they discuss the terms of their new business arrangement. Eddie is also doing some checking of his own and calls Ahmed to request a background check on Angelica Marino.
Charly is more interested in the marriage. She asks her brother whether something is holding him back and questions if marrying Bella is partly about duty rather than love. She had expected Eddie to end up with Susie instead.
At the celebrations before the wedding, Eddie meets Tancredi, or Tano, whose comments about Bella immediately bother him. Tano hints that there are things Eddie doesn’t know about his fiancée and describes her as “popular with men.”
Moretti has questions of his own when Eddie asks him about Angelica. Their conversation turns to Susie, with Moretti concerned about the possibility of her becoming competition. His timing couldn’t be better. Susie has arrived for the wedding.
She gets Eddie alone and asks how he became so certain about marrying Bella. Eddie traces the decision back to the night he was beaten and left in a grave, saying he had a revelation while fighting his way out. Susie then gets to the reason she really wanted to speak with him. She wants to know whether his plans with Moretti violate the non-compete clause in his agreement with Bobby. Eddie argues that what he is doing is bigger than that. They leave each other with the same warning to be careful.
Tano causes more trouble later when he tries to kiss Bella. One of her friends hits him; Tano attempts to hit her back, and Jack intervenes before the confrontation grows into a larger fight.
Eddie doesn’t see what happened, but Bella tells him Tano was responsible. He goes to Tano’s hotel room and demands a public apology. Tano gives him one, then insults Bella again. Eddie punches him, and Tano falls backward, strikes his head on a coffee table, and dies. Eddie leaves the room with Tano’s body on the floor and blood pooling beneath his head.
Moretti already knows what happened when he sits down for breakfast with Eddie on the morning of the wedding. His men have removed Tano’s body and dealt with the immediate problem.
Bella then sends Eddie to confession before they marry. He tells the priest that he killed a man the previous night and admits to the other people he has killed, both as a soldier and since entering the criminal business. He uses his knowledge of scripture during the confession, leaving the priest struggling with his answers.
There are signs that the Italian operation has attracted unwanted attention too. Nanny discovers one of the hidden weed farms on the estate and notices police photographing the license plates of wedding guests. He asks Charly directly what kind of business her family is involved in. She doesn’t explicitly tell him, but her response is enough to confirm his suspicions.
Susie uses the time before the ceremony to speak with both sides of Eddie’s new partnership. Bella admits that she had wondered whether something was going on between Susie and Eddie. Susie denies it and reassures her about Eddie’s intentions.
Her conversation with Moretti is more practical. She wants to understand where their working relationship stands and what Eddie might do next, but Moretti can’t give her any guarantees about him.
Eddie also discovers why he needed that background check on Angelica. She knows he killed Tano and tries to use the body against him. Angelica wants Eddie to tell Moretti to route money through Hong Kong rather than London. If he refuses, she threatens to make Tano’s death a problem for him.
But Ahmed’s investigation has given Eddie something to use against her. He knows Angelica and her husband have been skimming money. With both sides holding damaging information, Eddie gets the outcome he wants: Tano’s body will remain disposed of, and the money will go through London.
Just before Eddie enters the church, Susie speaks to him one more time. She worries about how far his ambition could take him and warns that he has the potential to become a monster.
The priest from Eddie’s confession is also the man performing the wedding ceremony, and he tells Eddie he will pray for him. Susie doesn’t stay to see the marriage completed. She leaves before the ceremony is over, and Eddie notices her departure.
Eddie and Bella are married. Later, after they consummate the marriage, Bella tells her new husband that she understands marrying her is beneficial to his career and that she doesn’t mind. Eddie denies that this is why he married her.
Susie has already turned back toward her own family. She contacts Bobby, shares her concerns about Eddie becoming a problem, and agrees to return home when her father asks her to.
Eddie and Bella, however, never make it to their honeymoon together. They decide to race there, with Eddie taking Bella’s car while she travels by plane. As Eddie drives, Bella’s plane suddenly explodes in the air and crashes in front of him.
He gets out of the car and runs toward the wreckage. The episode ends without confirming who caused the explosion or whether Eddie was the intended target.
Episode 7 “This Mad Circus”
The day after Eddie and Bella’s wedding, the Hornimans return to Halstead without Eddie and without knowing what happened to Bella’s plane. For now, the danger is much closer to home.
Things between Nanny and Geoff are uncomfortable from the moment the family gets back. Nanny would rather Geoff wasn’t around, while Sabrina and Charly know something he doesn’t. Geoff soon has another reason to feel uneasy when he notices the gate to his house left open.
That feeling only grows after dark. Phone reception suddenly disappears across the estate, and George, one of Geoff’s friends, spots an unknown man while he is out in the woods hunting a fox. There are also trucks nearby. George warns Geoff, who arms himself and heads for the house.
By the time he arrives, Halstead is being watched. The power goes out moments later, and armed men begin moving toward the manor. From their communications, they are looking for “the basket.”
Geoff immediately focuses on getting the family out. He gives Nanny a gun and tells him to take Sabrina, Charly, and Tarquin to the armored car while he stays behind to deal with the intruders.
Inside the house, Geoff turns the familiar rooms to his advantage. He leaves a shower running to draw one of the attackers toward him and kills him, then takes out another man in the hall. Stealing his communications equipment allows Geoff to hear where the rest of the group is moving.
Charly and Nanny have their own fight to get through. They are trying to leave quietly with a sleeping Tarquin when another attacker gets in their way. They manage to distract and kill him, but gunfire from inside the manor sends Nanny back to help Geoff.
Mr. Lawrence is shot during the attack, but the family eventually reaches the armored car and gets away from the house, then Charly realizes Tarquin is gone.
The armed men have taken the baby, forcing Geoff and Nanny straight back into the fight. Geoff contacts George, and the three men head into the woods while Sabrina and Charly remain with the vehicle.
They aren’t completely safe there either. An attacker approaches the car, and Charly uses the vehicle itself as a weapon. She drives into him, then repeatedly runs him over to make sure he cannot get back up.
Geoff, George, and Nanny have located the men holding Tarquin by this point and launch their attack. Nanny is shot in the leg during the exchange, but most of the group is killed. One man escapes into the woods with the baby; Geoff follows him.
The pursuit ends back at Geoff’s house, where the last attacker demands the keys. Geoff appears to cooperate and walks away to retrieve them, but instead gives his dog the signal to attack. With the man distracted, Geoff shoots and kills him, ending the assault and recovering Tarquin.
Away from Halstead, Susie finally learns what happened after the wedding.
She meets Bobby in the sauna and tells him Bella is dead. His reaction leaves Susie questioning whether her father knew anything about the plane explosion, so she asks him directly if he was responsible and whether Eddie was supposed to be killed instead.
Eddie, however, is alive and has gone into hiding. His location hasn’t kept him safe. Armed men find him there too, and Eddie is forced into another fight, killing the attackers who come after him.
With Eddie being hunted and Halstead attacked, Susie wants an answer from her father. Bobby tells her there is something she doesn’t know, a secret that can explain what is happening.
Episode 8 “Bring Me the Head”
Bella’s death leaves Eddie ready for war. Around the time of her funeral, he meets Moretti, and the two are already preparing to retaliate. Eddie has also captured one of the men who came after his family and is holding him at Geoff’s house.
The interrogation is brutal. The captive is tortured with his testicles connected to three car batteries until he names Bobby Glass as the person who hired him. Whether he is telling the truth or simply trying to make the pain stop isn’t immediately clear, but Eddie takes the accusation seriously.
He starts putting a plan in place with Moretti to kill Bobby. A gun is passed through several hands as they arrange the hit, while Susie is conducting her own investigation with Jack and the rest of her team.
The danger surrounding Halstead has also convinced Nanny that Charly and Tarquin should leave. He tells Eddie that he wants to move them somewhere safer, but both Eddie and Charly reject the idea.
Before Eddie can go any further against Bobby, Susie manages to meet with him. Andy stays close by with a weapon while Susie offers her condolences for Bella and asks Eddie to walk with her. She wants to know who killed Bella and offers to help him go after whoever was responsible.
Eddie doesn’t trust her enough to accept that immediately. He asks whether Susie and Bobby had anything to do with the explosion. Susie denies it and gives him the information Bobby revealed to her after the attack on Halstead. On the morning of Eddie’s wedding, Bobby bought Eddie’s debt from Stanley Johnston.
That changes the situation considerably. Bobby now has a financial interest in keeping Eddie alive, rather than killing him. Susie insists she had nothing to do with Bella’s death, and Eddie believes her enough to tell Andy to stand down.
He takes Susie to see the captive, who repeats that Bobby Glass hired him. When pressed, the man changes his story and claims he also met with Susie Glass. The answer doesn’t hold up, especially with Susie standing there questioning him. Eddie still needs proof that Bobby owns the debt. He calls Stanley, who confirms the sale.
There is now a much more urgent problem: Eddie has already ordered Bobby’s death.
Moretti’s assassin has been positioned inside the prison and reaches Bobby’s sauna before Eddie can completely stop the plan. Eddie gets there too, but the confrontation still turns violent. The attacker shoots Bobby in the arm. Bobby manages to take his shiv and repeatedly stabs him, killing him.
Eddie leaves Bobby with one message: he doesn’t belong to him.
Bobby survives the attempt and later tells Susie that their relationship with Eddie still matters. Whatever has happened between them, Bobby believes they need Eddie and Eddie needs them. Stanley has a similar message for Eddie, using scripture as he talks about selling the debt and the fight Eddie is having with his own demons.
The captured gunman offers little else of use. Eddie and Geoff force him to contact whoever hired him and try to arrange a meeting, but the replies lead nowhere, so Eddie kills him.
Susie wants Eddie to stop trying to force an immediate answer. She believes his trap was never going to work and tells him to give himself some time. More importantly, she promises they will find the people responsible together.
Halstead is changing around him as well. Charly has reconsidered leaving and tells Eddie that she, Nanny, and Tarquin will move away temporarily. She still supports her brother, but after the attack on the manor, keeping her family there is no longer an option. Then Sabrina tells Eddie about Freddy.
Freddy called home after having a bad dream about his family, and during that conversation he learned that Bella had been killed. Something about it bothers Eddie. He remembers his last meeting with his brother before the wedding, when he told Freddy that Bella would be flying her seaplane to their honeymoon destination. Freddy knew exactly how Bella would be traveling; that memory gives Eddie the lead he has been missing.
The Gentlemen Season 2 Ending Explained: Did Freddy Kill Bella?
Freddy is responsible for setting the attack on Bella’s plane in motion, but he didn’t act alone; the person working with him is John Dixon.
Eddie and Susie eventually reach Dixon through Vargas. Vargas meets Dixon inside a bonded warehouse, but the meeting is a setup. The lights go out, the men outside are killed, and Eddie and Susie enter with the path cleared for them. Errol tries to plead with Eddie, but Eddie shoots him twice. Susie and Vargas then leave Eddie alone with Dixon.
Dixon explains the attack as an act of revenge. Freddy still resents Eddie over the title and Halstead, believing both should have been his. Dixon has his own reasons for joining him, describing what happened as an eye for an eye. Eddie now knows his brother helped cause Bella’s death.
Sabrina tries to stop him from taking revenge against Freddy, but Eddie goes to see him anyway. The brothers walk together until Eddie confronts him with what he knows. Freddy initially denies it, and Eddie beats him. A van then pulls up. Eddie holds Freddy at gunpoint as his brother begs him not to kill him. But Eddie has something else planned. Dixon is inside the van, tied up and gagged, with a man holding a chainsaw beside him. Freddy is forced inside. The doors close, and the sound of the chainsaw follows.
When they open again, Freddy is still alive; he is covered in blood and holding Dixon’s severed head. Rather than killing his brother for betraying him, Eddie forces Freddy to kill Dixon. Freddy’s resentment helped lead to Bella’s death, but the finale leaves him alive after making him personally carry out Eddie’s revenge.
