Prime Video has released the official trailer for The Love Hypothesis, giving us a new look at Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman as Olive Smith and Adam Carlsen ahead of the film’s September 23 premiere.
The romantic comedy is based on Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling novel of the same name and follows a fake relationship between a Ph.D. candidate and a professor that inevitably becomes more complicated than either of them planned.
The Love Hypothesis Trailer Arrives Ahead of Its September 23 Premiere
Reinhart stars as Olive, a Ph.D. candidate focused on building her future in academia. Her romantic problems begin when she realizes that her best friend Ahn, played by Rachel Marsh, has feelings for Olive’s crush Jeremy, played by Nicholas Duvernay.
Wanting to convince Ahn that she has moved on, Olive impulsively kisses Adam Carlsen, an intimidating professor played by Tom Bateman. One kiss soon turns into something much bigger.
Olive and Adam agree to pretend they are dating, complete with rules and boundaries intended to keep their arrangement under control. As the two spend more time together, however, separating what is fake from what they actually feel becomes increasingly difficult.

The adaptation brings Hazelwood’s novel to the screen after the book became one of the titles most closely associated with the recent wave of contemporary romance novels finding large audiences online.
The Love Hypothesis premieres September 23, 2026, exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
