Netflix has announced the SCHOOLED! A new student science competition hosted by former NASA engineer and creator Mark Rober. The project marks Rober’s latest collaboration with the platform and expands his growing footprint in Netflix’s Kids & Family lineup.
According to Netflix, SCHOOLED! will center on teams of student tinkerers competing in science-based challenges inside a fully gamified school setting. The format positions Rober as host and guide, with a stated mission to discover the next generation of inventors, makers, and engineers. Winners will receive what Netflix describes as a “life-changing prize.”
Casting for the SCHOOLED! Netflix series is now open. Filming location and premiere date will be announced at a later time.
Inside the Concept of the SCHOOLED! Netflix Series
The official logline for the SCHOOLED! reads:
“Welcome to SCHOOLED!, where teams of student tinkerers compete in creative and explosive science challenges, set in a fully gamified school. Mark Rober is on a mission to discover the next generation of Inventors, Makers, and Engineers. Winners take home a life-changing prize.”
The series is positioned as a competition format built around engineering challenges and collaborative problem-solving. Netflix describes the setting as a “fully gamified school,” branded as CrunchLabs Academy in the announcement.
Mark Rober, a former NASA engineer who built a large online following through science-focused content, serves as host. He is also attached as an executive producer.
In a statement included in the press release, Rober said:
“I couldn’t be more stoked to team up with Netflix and Jimmy Kimmel to bring SCHOOLED! to life. Our series is about giving kids a stage big enough for their ideas. This will be the ultimate playground for science, creativity, and competition to come together. I’m so pumped to see what these students come up with. My expectations are high. I’m ready to be blown away.”

Who Is Behind the SCHOOLED! Netflix Series?
The SCHOOLED! is led by showrunner and executive producer Daniel Calin.
Executive producers include:
- Mark Rober and Scott Lewers for CrunchLabs
- Jimmy Kimmel and Scott Lonker for Kimmelot
John Derderian, Netflix Vice President of Animation Series + Kids & Family TV, addressed the collaboration in the official announcement:
“Mark Rober is a master of the ‘wow’ moment, and we’ve seen firsthand how much our members love his unique brand of science-fueled spectacle. We’re taking that energy to the next level with SCHOOLED!. It isn’t just a competition; it’s a celebration of creativity and engineering. It’s exactly the kind of co-viewing experience that brings families together, and we can’t wait to see what these young makers and tinkerers create in the halls of CrunchLabs Academy.”
The project brings together Netflix, CrunchLabs, and Kimmelot, Jimmy Kimmel’s production company, founded in 2018. Kimmelot’s credits include Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, The Prank Panel, Generation Gap, Live in Front of a Studio Audience, and Jimmy Kimmel Live, among others.
CrunchLabs, founded by Robert, is a science and engineering brand that inspires children through STEM toys, digital content, and curriculum-based materials. The SCHOOLED! marks an expansion of that ecosystem into a large-scale competition format.
Mark Rober’s Expanding Netflix Presence
The SCHOOLED! Netflix series joins an existing slate of Mark Rober projects on the platform.
His previous Netflix titles include:
- Mark Rober’s CrunchLabs, which drew over 12 million views within two months of its November 2025 debut, with additional episodes scheduled for March 16
- Elmo & Mark Rober’s Merry Giftmas
- Skyscraper Live on Netflix
Within Netflix’s broader family co-view lineup, the new competition series will sit alongside animated titles such as KPop Demon Hunters, Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, and Leo, as well as unscripted formats including Is It Cake? and The Golden Ticket.
At this stage, Netflix has not confirmed an episode count or premiere window for the SCHOOLED!
