Around them, secondary threads deepen the world: phtographer Luigi Poggi and creative editor Chartroux navigate a fraught, semi-closeted relationship; Lorenzo, Adelina’s son, is radicalized by student politics and first love; and international scandals, from a marquis’s murder-suicide to stolen photos of Jackie Kennedy Onassis, force Playmen into legal and moral battles it’s not supposed to win. What Happens in the Finale?
The last episode of Mrs Playmen pushes every storyline to a breaking point.
On the political side, student protests escalate. Lorenzo’s girlfriend Anna is pulled into dangerous territory when another activist, Gianluca, asks her to hide a gun. Lorenzo refuses to keep the weapon, a small but important refusal to let ideology go unchecked.
At Playmen, Adelina prepares an issue on revolution through the symbol of the birth control pill. The pill is legal to use but illegal to produce or sell, forcing women to travel to Switzerland to get it. For Adelina, it’s the clearest expression of what the magazine is becoming: a space where women can think about their bodies and futures without asking permission.
Meanwhile, the long-running legal war with Playboy reaches court. With the help of Elsa and Steve Magenta, Adelina’s team uncovers that Playboy itself once faced a plagiarism suit and even took its final name from an existing car company. The ruling goes in Playmen’s favor, proving they didn’t copy anything original.
Just as Adelina seems to have won,legally and editorially, Saro returns. His arrest warrant has been lifted, and as majority shareholder, he storms the celebratory party, fires Elsa, and announces plans to pivot toward a more explicitly pornographic men’s magazine. Adelina’s Choice and Saro’s Downfall
Adelina finally chooses herself, not her marriage, not respectability, and not the version of Playmen her husband wanted.
Adelina surprises Saro by proposing to buy the magazine outright, backed by the bank. For him, this is both a financial and an ego threat. The scene turns violent. He beats her, and Lorenzo throws him out of the house.
This domestic violence is the last mask coming off. Throughout the series, Saro has lied, stolen from the magazine, committed bigamy to dodge extradition, and repeatedly used Adelina as a legal shield. The beating makes clear that there is nothing left to salvage.
What saves Adelina is, ironically, Saro’s own fear. His secretary Lella finally admits that he secretly married his mistress Consuelo at the Mexican embassy to protect himself from international arrest. That marriage makes him a bigamist, and legally vulnerable. Adelina uses it to corner him: either he sells her Playmen or she exposes him.
He sells.
By the final scene, when Adelina walks into the offices as the true owner of Playmen, the show makes its point quietly but firmly. She hasn’t escaped the system; she has learned to use its tools against the man who weaponized them against her.
Elsa, De Cesari, and the Question of Justice
Elsa’s arc is just as important for understanding the meaning of the ending.
Her trial is degrading. The courtroom questions her clothes, motives, and character, treating her more like a suspect than a victim. It reflects the same legal culture that allowed matrimonio riparatore to exist: a system that protects “honor” more than women.
Even so, the finale gives Elsa a different kind of resolution. She refuses to go back to the neighborhood that blames her. She keeps working with Adelina, until Saro fires her, and she stops acting as De Cesari’s informant when she realizes Adelina doesn’t deserve to be sabotaged.
When De Cesari is shot while trying to stop Gianluca, Elsa is shut out of the hospital at first. Only at the end does she reach his bedside. He wakes, finds her there, and they kiss.
Elsa’s final position matters because it mirrors Adelina’s: she’s scarred, but she refuses to disappear.
Playmen vs Playboy:
By proving that Playboy once copied another title and borrowed its final name from a car company, Adelina exposes the myth of originality behind the American giant.
