Netflix has found its Vladimir.
Leo Woodall, fresh off breakout roles in One Day and Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, will star opposite Rachel Weisz in the upcoming limited series Vladimir, based on Julia May Jonas’s provocative novel.
The series, set to run for eight episodes, is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most anticipated literary adaptations, a darkly intimate look at power, obsession, and the dangerously blurred line between fantasy and control.
What Is Vladimir About?
Adapted by the author herself, Vladimir follows a woman whose carefully managed academic life begins to unravel just as she becomes fixated on a charismatic new colleague. What starts as intrigue quickly slides into obsession, drawing her into a spiral of fantasies that she becomes determined to make real.
Jonas’s novel was praised for its sharp tone, psychological depth, and refusal to play it safe. The show promises the same: “sexy secrets, dark humor, and complex characters.”
Cast & Creative Team
Leo Woodall will play Vladimir, the object of fixation, whose arrival sets off a chain of emotional and professional consequences. Woodall’s casting follows a rapid rise in recent years, including leads in Netflix’s One Day and the Bridget Jones sequel.
Rachel Weisz, who will star as the unnamed narrator, also serves as an executive producer. Her recent work in Dead Ringers showed her range for layered, psychologically rich roles, making this casting both smart and promising.

Vladimir joins a growing list of Netflix dramas anchored by literary source material, but it stands apart for its raw emotional undercurrent and boundary-pushing themes. With Woodall and Weisz headlining, and Julia May Jonas steering the adaptation herself, this is one to keep on your radar.
No release date has been announced yet, but filming is expected to begin later this year.
