New Year’s Eve is supposed to mark a new beginning, but Ted Lasso season 4 episode 6 has several characters looking back instead. Ted finally talks honestly with Michelle about life after their marriage, Alice tries to find her place with the team, and one badly timed knee injury puts Roy and Keeley’s unresolved feelings back in the spotlight.
Ted and Michelle finally talk about life after their marriage
Christmas has passed when episode 6, “Don’t Jump Around Much Anymore,” begins, bringing Ted, Michelle and Henry to New Year’s Eve.
They spend part of the night at Mae’s tavern, where Henry keeps himself occupied working around the pub. That leaves Ted and Michelle with time alone, and their conversation eventually turns to what has happened since their marriage ended.
Michelle talks about some of the difficulties she faced after their split. She also wants to know what Ted has been doing with his own personal life. The answer is very little. He has no new relationship, and Michelle encourages him to start thinking about a life that doesn’t revolve entirely around work.
It is especially relevant after Ted was recently asked whether he was lonely. He now appears ready to consider sharing his life with someone again, even if there is no indication yet of who that person could be. For now, he ends New Year’s Eve by joining his team for the celebration.
Alice has a much more difficult time finding her place among them.
With her one-match suspension almost behind her, she attends the New Year’s Eve party at Zelda Southport’s home. Her feelings about the team have never been the problem, Showing those feelings has.
Gemma makes an effort to reach out and explains that the other players don’t dislike her. They simply do not know Alice very well. For a while, the conversation seems to help.
Then Lizzie approaches her later in the night and mentions that Gemma has spoken to the team about her. Whatever progress Alice had made appears to disappear just as quickly, leaving her relationship with the rest of the players unresolved.
Roy’s injury puts Keeley face-to-face with Dr. Beaumont
Before joining the team at Zelda’s party, Keeley and Rebecca have another New Year’s Eve event to attend: the launch of Jamie Tartt’s vodka.
Roy joins them there, bringing Keeley, Rebecca, Jamie and Roy together for the evening. The party eventually has Roy and Jamie dancing to “Jump Around,” until Roy’s knee gives out.
The injury sends the night in a completely different direction. Keeley, Jamie and Rebecca take Roy to the hospital, where Keeley comes face-to-face with Dr. Beaumont and realizes she is the woman Roy has been seeing.
Keeley is still affected by the idea of Roy being with someone else, but she chooses to leave the two of them alone. That should give Dr. Beaumont the opportunity to spend the end of New Year’s Eve with him. Instead, Roy complicates everything without even being fully aware of it.
Drunk and medicated at the hospital, he says Keeley’s name while Dr. Beaumont is trying to connect with him. She leaves soon afterward. Whatever Roy is trying to build with someone new, his feelings for Keeley have clearly not disappeared.
Rebecca’s own New Year’s Eve also brings an unexpected reunion. She has been trying to repair her relationship with Matthjis, but it initially appears she will enter the new year without him. He eventually arrives at the hospital, giving the two a chance to reconnect before the night is over.

The episode leaves several relationships uncertain, but Roy’s hospital stay gives the clearest indication of where his feelings stand.
Keeley believes she is leaving Roy with the woman he has been seeing. Once Keeley is gone, however, Roy says her name while Dr. Beaumont is with him. He is intoxicated and medicated at the time, so the episode does not turn that moment into a conscious decision from Roy or a reconciliation with Keeley.
What it does confirm is that Keeley is still very much on his mind. Dr. Beaumont leaves after hearing her name, while Keeley is unaware of what happened after she walked away.
Alice ends the night with her own problem unresolved. Gemma’s attempt to help her connect with the team initially seems successful, but learning that Gemma has discussed her with the others appears to undo some of that progress.
Ted, meanwhile, ends New Year’s Eve having acknowledged something much more personal. His conversation with Michelle pushes him to consider making room in his life for a relationship again rather than allowing work to occupy all of it.
