Crew Girl season 1 starts with Teagan Tao losing almost everything she knows. By the finale, she has found a place at Easton Prep and a crew willing to stand beside her, but getting there means dealing with her father’s disappearance, fighting for a place in the boat, and becoming caught between Cam and Josh.

Teagan’s life falls apart before she arrives at Easton Prep
Teagan’s season begins at a rowing race in Los Angeles. Her parents, Ella and David, are there to support her, but David suddenly leaves after receiving a message. Teagan wins without him there to see it, and things get much worse once she returns to shore. The FBI arrives to question Ella, while David has disappeared.
The truth is that David defrauded investors out of millions of dollars. The FBI takes the family’s money, apart from the education trust he created for Teagan, leaving Ella and her daughter to start over. They leave Los Angeles and move into Ella’s childhood home in Eagle’s Ridge.
For Teagan, the move also threatens the future she had planned for herself. Rowing is a huge part of her life, and she wants the chance to be noticed by Division I coaches. Easton Prep has a rowing program, but when she goes looking for the girls’ crew, assistant coach Lana tells her there isn’t one.
Teagan still manages to get herself involved with the boys’ team. After she takes a boat out without permission and ends up on dock-cleaning duty, she watches a bad practice and gives Coach Hayden advice about changing the seating. He listens, and the crew immediately improves its time.
That does not make her popular with Josh Regis, who loses the stroke seat after Hayden’s changes. Josh comes from one of Easton’s most powerful families, while Cam Dillinger, another member of the crew, attends the school on a scholarship. Teagan’s first experiences at Easton quickly put her between those two very different worlds.
Her knowledge of rowing eventually earns her a real opportunity. Coach Hayden has Teagan compete against Liam for the coxswain position. Teagan leads her boat to victory, Liam quits, and she becomes the new coxswain.
She has found a way onto the team, but staying at Easton presents another problem. Her tuition is no longer covered as expected, leaving Ella to figure out how to pay $25,000 for the semester.
Teagan has to convince the crew that she belongs with them
Being named coxswain does not immediately make Teagan part of the crew. Several of the boys resent having her there, and she is still learning how to lead a group that does not completely trust her.
The fight over who should sit in stroke makes that harder. Hayden wants to give Cam the position, but Josh’s father Rich uses his influence to get Josh reinstated. During a race against Easton alumni, Josh ignores Teagan’s instructions and the team loses.
Rich’s interference also gives Teagan an early look at the pressure surrounding Josh. The Regis family has money and influence at Easton, and Josh is expected to live up to the family name. His cousin Ryder has his own claim to that legacy, creating a rivalry between them that their grandfather actively encourages.
Cam has the opposite problem. He has the talent and wants to reach the Olympics, but his status as a scholarship student regularly separates him from the wealthier boys around him.
Teagan is still an outsider herself. She initially lies to Cam about her father, telling him David died rather than explaining the scandal. Britney, Josh’s longtime girlfriend, eventually exposes the truth about David at a party. It is humiliating for Teagan, but it also forces her to stop hiding what happened.
The crew slowly begins to accept her as she starts understanding that leading them requires more than telling them what to do in a boat. That becomes particularly clear through Quaid, who is getting into trouble because of his conflict with another student. Teagan helps him deal with the situation and, in doing so, shows the rest of the guys that she will back them outside rowing too. They finally add her to their group chat.
Her place with the team is tested again when Britney arranges an opportunity for Teagan to transfer to another school with a stronger rowing program. Teagan takes the meeting and is offered the chance to join them, but accepting would mean giving up her position as Easton’s coxswain.
Crabby is particularly hurt when he discovers she is considering leaving. After Easton wins its regatta, Teagan makes her decision. She turns down the transfer and stays with the crew.
Cam and Josh both develop feelings for Teagan
Cam is Teagan’s first real connection after she arrives in Eagle’s Ridge. They grow closer through rowing, and he eventually asks her out. Their taco date gives Teagan a better understanding of how important the sport is to him and how seriously he takes his goal of reaching the Olympics.
Josh’s relationship with Teagan develops very differently. They clash almost immediately over rowing, but spending more time together changes things.
One of their biggest early moments comes after Josh’s birthday party. Angry with him, Teagan takes his new car and heads to the boathouse, where she goes out on the water alone. Another boat clips hers, and she falls into the water. Josh gets her out and stays with her until she regains consciousness.
The incident gives them a chance to talk more openly. Teagan begins to understand that Josh’s privileged life comes with its own pressures, particularly his family’s expectations.
At the same time, Josh’s relationship with Britney is deteriorating. Britney is heavily invested in the image of them as a perfect couple, even arranging a magazine feature, while Josh grows increasingly unhappy with the life other people have planned for him.
Teagan still chooses to explore things with Cam. They attend the fall formal together, but the night exposes one of Cam’s biggest insecurities. When the group plans to attend an expensive afterparty, Perry pays for Cam’s ticket because the money is going to the program that helps fund his education. Cam is embarrassed by the reminder of the financial difference between him and the other students and leaves.
Josh ends his relationship with Britney that same night. He later finds Teagan at the boathouse, tells her about the breakup, and kisses her. After initially pulling away, Teagan kisses him back.
The kiss starts a secret relationship between them, but Teagan’s feelings for Cam haven’t simply disappeared.
Josh is hiding a serious heart condition
Long before Teagan knows the truth, Josh is dealing with a problem much bigger than rowing politics or his relationships with Britney and Teagan.
He has a serious heart condition. There are signs earlier in the season, including chest pain and medication, before a doctor tells Josh that he needs to take the condition seriously. He continues keeping it from his family and the crew.
His fear is closely tied to the expectations placed on him as a Regis. Josh believes his family expects him to lead and win, and rowing has become another way for him to prove himself to his father and grandfather.
The pressure gets worse as the Haverford Cup approaches. Before an important regatta, someone secretly saws through Josh’s oar and covers the cut so it will not be discovered beforehand. The oar snaps during the race, disqualifying Easton.
The crew initially assumes someone wanted to hurt Josh or prevent Easton from winning. Because access to the boathouse is restricted, suspicion falls on people close to the team. Ryder, Cam, Teagan, and others all come under scrutiny.
Logan, the Westview rower Baloo has been secretly seeing, becomes the main suspect after he is spotted near the boat storage. Baloo believes Logan used him to get access and cuts him off.
The truth is very different: Josh sabotaged his own oar. After learning that he needs emergency surgery and is at serious risk of a heart attack, Josh is told he cannot race. Rather than tell his family why he has to stop, he damages the oar himself and creates a reason for the race to end without exposing his condition.
Teagan and Josh fall apart as more secrets come out
Teagan’s relationship with Josh begins to collapse before she even knows why he sabotaged the race. Josh pulls away and tells her they should end what is happening between them.
His secret does not stay hidden for much longer. At an invitational, Baloo learns that Logan didn’t damage the oar and that Josh was in the boathouse. When confronted, Josh leaves, and Teagan gets into his car with him, looking for answers.
Josh begins driving dangerously and blacks out, crashing the car. His worsening chest pain finally forces him to tell Teagan about his heart condition.
He also tells her why he has kept it secret. Josh fears disappointing his father and believes his parents will not love him if they see him as defective. He asks Teagan to let him compete in one last regatta before telling them the truth.
Josh’s secret is only one of several problems closing in on the crew.
Cam’s father’s auto shop is in serious financial trouble. Ryder offers Cam $48,000 to throw an invitational race so Ryder can win in front of a scout. Cam accepts and deliberately gives up his lead, allowing Ryder to finish first.
Teagan realizes what he has done and why. She later interferes with an erg so that her own result and Cam’s will be removed, giving them another opportunity to race. Her decision protects Cam’s Olympic hopes, but it also breaks the rules and creates a problem that follows her into the finale.
Their complicated feelings are still there. Teagan tells Cam that he matters more to her than rowing, but he is not ready to let her back into his problems.
Ella is also rebuilding her life in Eagle’s Ridge
Teagan is not the only Tao trying to recover from David’s disappearance.
Ella initially struggles financially and emotionally after returning to Eagle’s Ridge. She takes work at a restaurant before finding an opportunity in event planning through Imogen, Josh’s mother. The work gives her another way to support Teagan’s tuition and begins restoring her independence after her old life collapses.
Returning home also reconnects Ella with Coach Hayden, whom she knew when they were younger. Their friendship becomes romantic as the season continues, although Ella eventually asks to put the relationship on hold because she needs time on her own. Then David comes back.
He secretly returns to Ella with a flash drive containing evidence against his former partner. David believes he can sell it for enough money to restore the life he destroyed and take his family back to Los Angeles.
Ella refuses; she and Teagan have built a life in Eagle’s Ridge, and she tells David he cannot see their daughter again until he takes responsibility for what he did.
Teagan does not initially know her father has returned, creating another fracture between her and Ella when she eventually discovers the truth.
The crew stands together for the Haverford Cup
Everything comes together ahead of the Haverford Cup.
Josh admits to the team that he sabotaged the oar, although he still does not tell them the real reason. His confession divides the crew over who should take stroke. When Cam is left with the deciding vote, he supports Josh.
Teagan has her own problem. Easton’s principal learns that someone deliberately tampered with the erg at the invitational and demands that whoever was responsible be removed from the boat. Teagan admits what she did and refuses to let Cam explain why.
Coach Hayden takes her out of the lineup. When Teagan tells the crew she cannot race, Cam immediately says he will not compete without her. Josh joins him. One by one, the rest of the crew follows until Hayden faces losing his entire boat.
He allows Teagan to race and accepts that he will have to deal with the consequences himself. One final change happens before they get onto the water. Josh gives the stroke seat to Cam. After spending much of the season fighting to live up to what his family expects, Josh finally accepts that Cam should lead the boat.
Easton enters the Haverford Cup hoping to reach the podium and finishes second, earning silver and giving the school its first medal in ten years.
After the race, Josh finally tells his family about his heart condition and that he cannot continue rowing. His grandfather immediately worries about what it means for the family’s plans, but Rich responds differently. Josh’s father tells him that his health comes first and asks about treatment, promising to be there through his recovery.
Baloo also learns the full truth about Logan and apologizes for believing he sabotaged the team. Logan accepts the apology, and they reconcile.
For Teagan, one more family confrontation still awaits. David shows up at the Haverford Cup and ultimately decides to turn himself in. He tells Teagan that Ella was dealing with the mess he created and asks her not to blame her mother. The FBI then arrives and takes him into custody.
Crew Girl season 1 ending explained
The Haverford Cup gives Easton its biggest sporting success of the season, but the consequences arrive almost immediately.
Coach Hayden knew Teagan had broken the rules when he allowed her back into the boat. When the principal confronts him afterward, he takes responsibility rather than exposing Teagan and Cam. She fires him, leaving Easton’s rowing program without the coach who brought the team its first medal in a decade.
Josh’s future changes even more dramatically. He has finally told his family about his heart condition and cannot continue rowing. His conversation with Teagan afterward also leaves their relationship open rather than closing it completely. Josh tells her that she has seen him at his worst and hopes she will eventually give him another chance when he is in a better place.
Teagan does not make that choice in the finale. Cam finds her before he leaves, and the two kiss. Their problems aren’t completely resolved, but the season ends with Teagan and Cam reconnecting after everything that pulled them apart.
Ella and David’s story reaches a clearer turning point. David is taken into custody after deciding to turn himself in, while Ella remains in Eagle’s Ridge. Her relationship with Hayden is still on hold.
Juliet also gets a surprise. After deciding to emancipate herself from parents who have repeatedly failed to show up for her, her mother unexpectedly returns. The episode does not resolve what her arrival means for Juliet.
The final rowing reveal brings the season back to the problem Teagan had when she first arrived at Easton. Coach Lana tells her there is now enough interest to form a girls’ rowing team in the spring, meaning Teagan can get back into a boat instead of only serving as coxswain.
But there is a catch: the Garner Foundation helped make the new team possible, and Britney plans to join it. After spending much of the season trying to get Teagan away from Josh and out of her world, Britney will now be her rowmate.
So while Teagan finishes the season with Cam, several parts of her life remain unsettled. Josh is still hoping for another chance, Hayden has lost his job, Juliet’s mother has returned, and Teagan is about to move from leading the boys’ crew to rowing alongside Britney.
