Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Renewed for Season 2 at HBO Max

HBO Max has officially renewed Stuart Fails to Save the Universe for Season 2. The renewal comes while the first season is still releasing weekly, with the finale scheduled for Thursday, September 24.

The Big Bang Theory spinoff comes from creators Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady and stars Kevin Sussman as Stuart Bloom, Lauren Lapkus as Denise, Brian Posehn as Bert, and John Ross Bowie as Barry Kripke.

According to HBO Max, the first season has become the streamer’s second-biggest comedy launch globally. Now Stuart’s very unsuccessful attempt to put reality back together will continue for another season.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Season 2 Is Official

HBO Max announced the Season 2 renewal before the first season had finished its run, giving the series an early vote of confidence.

“We’re delighted with how this hilarious, genre-bending show from Chuck, Zak, and Bill has connected with the audience, both devotees of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ and new fans alike,” Amy Gravitt, EVP, HBO Programming and Head of HBO & HBO Max Comedy Series, said in a statement announcing the renewal. “Along with everyone else, we can’t wait to see the worlds they conjure for these beloved characters next season.”

Channing Dungey, Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group and WBD US Networks, also pointed to the show’s connection to The Big Bang Theory while describing Stuart Fails to Save the Universe as a new take on the franchise.

The renewal itself doesn’t tell us where Season 2 will take Stuart and the others. With Season 1 still airing, HBO Max has not announced a premiere date, episode count, or production schedule for Season 2.

Season 1 Still Has More Episodes to Come

There is still the small matter of Stuart trying to fix the mess he created before we can start worrying about what he will break next.

Season 1 follows Stuart after he breaks a device created by Sheldon and Leonard, accidentally causing a multiverse Armageddon. Restoring reality falls to Stuart, with Denise, Bert, and Kripke joining him as the group encounters alternate-universe versions of familiar Big Bang Theory characters along the way.

The series is created, written, and executive produced by Lorre, Penn, and Prady through Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Kyle Newacheck serves as an executive producer and directs multiple episodes.

New episodes continue to arrive weekly on HBO Max, leading up to the September 24 season finale. With Season 2 now confirmed, whatever happens in that finale won’t be the end of Stuart’s multiverse problems.
