Netflix’s This Summer Will Be Different has officially started production, with filming now underway on Prince Edward Island and in Toronto. The adaptation of Carley Fortune’s bestselling romance novel will run for 10 episodes, with Sophie Nélisse leading the cast as Lucy.
Alongside the production update, Netflix has released a new cast image and announced six recurring additions: Jordan Rodrigues as Miles Lam, Jude Wilson as Zach, Natalie Brown as Christine, James Tupper as Ken, Tom Barnett as Peter, and Celia Owen as Joy.
Nélisse’s casting was previously announced by Netflix, along with Francesca Reale and Roby Attal.

Nélisse, known for Yellowjackets and Heated Rivalry, will play Lucy, the central character in Fortune’s novel.
This Summer Will Be Different follows Lucy across multiple summers on Prince Edward Island as she moves through her 20s and falls in love with her best friend’s brother, despite knowing he is the one person she is not supposed to fall for.
The newly announced recurring cast includes:

‘This Summer Will Be Different’ Is Filming on Prince Edward Island and in Toronto
Production is taking place on Prince Edward Island and in Toronto, bringing at least part of the adaptation to the Canadian setting at the center of Fortune’s novel.
Dane Clark and Linsey Stewart serve as creators and showrunners. Clark’s previous credits include Suze and One More Time, while Stewart has worked on Workin’ Moms and North of North.
Karen Maine, Jasmin Mozaffari, and Fab Filippo are directing episodes of the 10-episode series.
Clark and Stewart also executive produce alongside Fortune, Jennifer Kawaja, Elise Cousineau, and Sam Levine for Sphere Media. Sphere Media is producing the series.
The adaptation is part of Netflix’s Canadian slate, which also includes North of North, Wayward, Who Killed the Montreal Expos?, and the upcoming Below and The Granville Girls.
