BTS Comeback Live ARIRANG Marks Historic Return on Netflix Stage

BTS Comeback Live ARIRANG aired live on Netflix on March 21, 2026, broadcast from Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul. It was the group’s first full performance together following the completion of their mandatory military service, a moment fans had been anticipating for nearly four years. The occasion was the release of ARIRANG, the group’s fifth studio album, and it produced one of the most-watched live events of the year.

All seven members: RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook, performed a 12-song setlist that combined new album tracks with established catalog favorites. The show was directed by Hamish Hamilton and produced by Done + Dusted, with HYBE and BIGHIT MUSIC serving as executive producers.

The Setting: Gwanghwamun Square and Gyeongbokgung Palace

The choice of venue carried considerable weight. Gwanghwamun Square is a historic public space in central Seoul, fronted by the gate leading into Gyeongbokgung, the royal palace of Korea’s Joseon dynasty, which ruled for more than 500 years.

The square is home to statues of King Sejong, who created the Korean Hangul script in 1443, and Admiral Yi Sun-shin, a celebrated military figure. It is primarily used for cultural gatherings and public events, and BTS Comeback Live ARIRANG marked the first standalone concert ever staged there.

The stage itself was built around the Gwanghwamun gate, with LED structures framing the architecture and the mountainous skyline remaining visible behind it throughout the performance.

Jimin addressed the crowd directly during the show: “The fact that I am speaking here… I am so moved. All seven of us standing on stage together makes me so happy.”

How the Show Opened

Fifty dancers performed in formation on the upper platform of Gyeongbokgung Palace before splitting apart to create a path for the group’s entrance. BTS walked out, and RM delivered the greeting the audience had been waiting for: “Hello, Seoul! We’re back.”

The opening track was “Body to Body,” the first song on ARIRANG, built around a melody drawn from the traditional Korean folk song of the same name, considered an unofficial national anthem and a defining piece of the country’s cultural identity. In the latter half of the performance, musicians and vocalists dressed in traditional Joseon-era attire performed the “Arirang” folk melody live, grounding the new album’s themes in something older and more established.

Eight songs from ARIRANG received their live premiere that night.

BTS Comeback Live ARIRANG: Standout Performances

“Hooligan” and “2.0”

“Hooligan” opened with Jin and a stage full of masked backup dancers. RM performed despite an ankle injury sustained during rehearsal, remaining seated for portions of the set without losing his presence on stage. “2.0,” a hip-hop track led by SUGA.

“FYA”

Produced by Diplo, Flume, and JPEGMAFIA, “FYA” is among the more sonically unexpected tracks on the album, rhythmically dense, and built for a large stage.

“SWIM”

The album’s lead single was the production centerpiece of the evening. The choreography was built around controlled, fluid movement. Speaking about the album during the show, SUGA said: “We wanted to show you the most honest side of the seven of us. We worked hard to show a more mature and evolved BTS.”

“MIC Drop,” “Butter,” and “Dynamite”

The middle portion of the setlist brought back three of the group’s most recognized tracks. “Butter” and “Dynamite,” both English-language singles, produced sustained audience participation. “MIC Drop”, performed in its Korean version, centered on j-hope and the group’s choreography rather than crowd interaction.

“Mikrokosmos”

The closing song, dedicated to BTS’s fanbase, ended with the LED structures dissolving into star-like visuals projected across the walls of Gwanghwamun. It was the show’s most visually complete moment, and the one RM had been building toward with his final address to the audience: “No matter what happens, we promise to keep swimming together.”
