Netflix has officially confirmed that The Diplomat will return for Season 3 this fall and the first teaser is already here to stoke the flames.
After the explosive twists of Season 2, Debora Cahn’s sharp political drama raises the stakes once again, and this time, it’s Keri Russell’s Ambassador Kate Wyler who’s stepping right into the eye of the storm.
The Emmy-nominated series brings back its core cast, Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, David Gyasi, and Ali Ahn, alongside new political dynamics that promise to shake up the White House, Downing Street, and Kate’s marriage alike.
Notably, Bradley Whitford (in his first season on the show) reunites with Allison Janney for what’s already being teased as a standout pairing.

“I was thrilled when I heard that Debora was interested in me doing something. I had no idea what it was. I love the show. I was jealous of the writing on this show. I love Keri. I love Rufus. And I hear Allison Janney is good at acting too. It’s an amazing cast.”

What Happens in The Diplomat Season 3?
Picking up after the jaw-dropping Season 2 finale, Season 3 finds Kate Wyler exactly where she didn’t want to be: at the heart of a global crisis, thrust forward by the very ambitions she tried to suppress.
With the U.S. President now dead, Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) has assumed power, the same woman Kate just accused of orchestrating a terrorist plot. Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell), her husband, may have inadvertently caused the president’s death, and yet he’s doubling down on his goal of getting Kate into the vice presidency.
Kate steps into a role she never asked for, forming an increasingly layered relationship with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi) while navigating an unsettling connection with First Gentleman Todd Penn (Bradley Whitford).
It’s power, at a cost. And in The Diplomat, nothing is ever clean.
