The frontier world expands with new cast members joining Laura Ingalls and the family in Netflix’s reimagined adaptation.
Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie reboot is shaping up to be more than a revival; it’s a full-scale reimagining of one of the most enduring stories in American culture. Following the casting of Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls, the streamer has announced a new slate of series regulars and recurring roles, including some long-anticipated characters pulled straight from Laura Ingalls Wilder’s classic books.
A Growing Cast, A Broader Community
Joining the previously announced cast, Alice Halsey as Laura, Luke Bracey as Charles Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline, and Skywalker Hughes as Mary, are six new actors who bring even more texture and cultural depth to this frontier world.
- Jocko Sims (New Amsterdam) takes on the role of Dr. George Tann, a warm and respected physician known for his steady hand and disarming charm. He’s a vital presence in the community and one of the rare figures everyone turns to in crisis.
- Warren Christie (The Watchful Eye) will play John Edwards, a Civil War veteran whose mysterious past and magnetic personality make him a standout figure, especially among the local women.
- Wren Zhawenim Gotts (Echo) has been cast as Good Eagle, a spirited young storyteller whose imagination colors everything around her. She is the daughter of Mitchell and White Sun, two more newly revealed characters.
- Meegwun Fairbrother (Avatar, Burden of Truth) portrays Mitchell, a soft-spoken farmer who’s earned quiet success and respect through resilience and heart.
- Alyssa Wapanatǎhk (Peter Pan and Wendy) plays White Sun, Mitchell’s sharp-witted and emotionally layered wife, who balances humor with a more skeptical view of the world around her.
- Xander Cole will appear as Little Puma, White Sun’s younger brother, loyal, hot-headed, and never far from mischief.
We Found Laura, And the Rest of the Ingalls Family Is Here Too: Little House on the Prairie Reboot Reveals Its Cast
A World Beyond Walnut Grove
This new wave of casting signals a deeper shift in how Little House on the Prairie is being told. No longer just the tale of one family carving out a life in the wilderness, the show is widening its lens to include the broader network of people and cultures who also shaped the American frontier.
Characters like Good Eagle, White Sun, and Mitchell offer perspectives rarely seen in earlier versions, creating space for Indigenous stories within the larger narrative. At the same time, familiar faces like Dr. Tann and John Edwards expand the social landscape, hinting at future conflicts, alliances, and emotional arcs that go far beyond the original homestead.
The Team Behind the Prairie
Guiding this ambitious adaptation is Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys, Archive 81), who serves as showrunner and executive producer. She’s joined by Joy Gorman Wettels, Trip Friendly, Dana Fox, and Susanna Fogel, a team with a proven track record for character-driven stories and emotionally rich worldbuilding. Sarah Adina Smith will direct the premiere episode, setting the tone with her signature mix of atmospheric realism and narrative intimacy.
Produced by CBS Studios and Anonymous Content, filming begins this summer in Winnipeg, Canada.
Legacy and Longevity
First published in the 1930s, Wilder’s Little House books have sold more than 73 million copies worldwide and remain cultural touchstones nearly a century later. The original 1974 TV series became a fixture of American television and continues to resonate: in 2024 alone, it was streamed for a staggering 13.25 billion minutes, according to Nielsen.
This latest adaptation aims to preserve the spirit of the original while offering a more nuanced, inclusive portrayal of pioneer life, one that reflects both the beauty and brutality of the American frontier.
