The official trailer and key art for La Bola Negra, the new Spanish film from directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, have been released ahead of its theatrical debut on October 16, 2026. The film stars Guitarricadelafuente, Miguel Bernardeau, Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close, with a story following three generations of men across different periods of Spanish history.
The film arrives with two festival honors, having won the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Audience Award at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. It has also been selected as Spain’s official submission for International Feature Film at the 99th Academy Awards.

What Is La Bola Negra About?
La Bola Negra follows three men whose lives are shaped by the social and personal struggles of their respective generations.
Carlos, played by Milo Quifes, searches for a sense of belonging in a divided Spain. Sebastián, played by Guitarricadelafuente, develops a connection that crosses opposing sides, while Alberto, played by Carlos González, discovers a family secret that brings previously hidden truths to light.
The film explores how family history, love, and personal identity connect the three generations, with each character confronting circumstances shaped by the period in which he lives.
Alongside the three leads, the cast includes Miguel Bernardeau as Rafael, Lola Dueñas as Teresa, Penélope Cruz as Nené, Glenn Close as Isabelle and Julio Torres as Juan Pablo.
Who Is Behind La Bola Negra?
Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, collectively known as Los Javis, direct the film from a screenplay they co-wrote with Alberto Conejero.
The production brings together Movistar Plus+, Suma Content Films, Telefónica Audiovisual Digital, Los Esquiadores AIE, El Deseo, Le Pacte, Atresmedia and CREA SGR.
La Bola Negra opens in select theaters on October 16, 2026; it will arrive on Netflix at a later date.
