Netflix has released the first trailer for Ray Gunn, Brad Bird’s new animated movie starring Sam Rockwell and Scarlett Johansson. The film will arrive in select theaters and on limited 70mm screens on December 4, 2026, followed by its Netflix release on December 18.
The first trailer comes alongside new teaser art and an expanded voice cast that includes Tom Waits, Alan Tudyk, Matt Berry, Bobby Cannavale and more.

Ray Gunn Heads to an Alternate 1939 Future
Ray Gunn takes place in Metropia, a huge city in an alternate future imagined through the lens of 1939.
At the center of the story is private detective Raymond Gunn, who gets pulled into a case involving aliens, murder, and multimedia star Venus Nova.
Brad Bird directs the film from a screenplay he wrote with Matthew Robbins, based on Bird’s original story.
Bird is best known in animation for directing The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, Ratatouille and Incredibles 2. Ray Gunn marks his latest animated feature and comes to Netflix through Skydance Animation.
Sam Rockwell and Scarlett Johansson Lead the Ray Gunn Voice Cast
Sam Rockwell and Scarlett Johansson lead an extensive voice cast that also includes Tom Waits, Alan Tudyk, Matt Berry, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Chernus, Kether Donohue and Michelle Rodriguez.
Aasif Mandvi, Matt Jones, Kathryn Hunter, John Ratzenberger, Justin Peck and Patton Oswalt round out the announced cast.
Netflix’s latest announcement does not identify which characters each actor will voice.
John Lasseter, Brad Bird, Lisa Beroud, David Ellison and Dana Goldberg produce the film for Skydance Animation.
Ray Gunn joins Netflix’s growing slate of original animated movies, which includes KPop Demon Hunters, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, Nimona, The Sea Beast, The Mitchells vs. the Machines and Klaus. Upcoming animated titles also include In Waves and Steps.
For Ray Gunn, audiences will have two chances to see Bird’s latest animation before the end of the year: its limited theatrical run begins December 4, followed by its Netflix debut two weeks later on December 18.
