Netflix has released the first teaser trailer and teaser art for Steps, its new animated take on the Cinderella story. The movie premieres on Netflix on November 20, 2026, with Ali Wong, Amanda Seyfried, Stephanie Hsu and Nikki Glaser leading the voice cast.
Instead of telling Cinderella’s story from the usual perspective, Steps puts her stepsisters at the center and asks what happens when one of them decides she has had enough of living in Cinderella’s shadow.
Steps turns Cinderella’s stepsisters into the heroes of the story
The story follows Lilith, voiced by Ali Wong, who steals the Fairy Godmother’s magic wand and takes over the Royal Ball alongside her sister Margot, voiced by Stephanie Hsu.
That decision breaks the Cinderella story as they know it and leaves the kingdom vulnerable to Priscilla, a schemer voiced by Nikki Glaser who takes the throne.
Fixing the mess requires Lilith to work with the last person she might have expected: Cinderella herself, voiced by Amanda Seyfried.
Their journey includes biker trolls, evil henchmen, and the Screaming Woods as they try to save the kingdom and repair their relationship along the way.
Bette Midler voices the Fairy Godmother, while the rest of the cast includes Daniel Radcliffe, Young Mazino and Peter Dinklage.
Who is behind Netflix’s Steps?
Alyce Tzue and John Ripa direct Steps, with Amy Poehler, Jane Hartwell and Kim Lessing producing. Poehler and Lessing produce through Paper Kite Productions.
Ava Tramer, James Madejski, Jen Chuck, Dana Schwartz, and Felicia Ho wrote the screenplay. The story is credited to Tramer, Madejski, Schwartz, Ho, Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci.
Kris Bowers composed the movie’s original score.
Steps joins Netflix’s growing collection of original animated movies, which includes KPop Demon Hunters, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, Nimona, The Sea Beast, The Mitchells vs. the Machines, Klaus and Leo. Upcoming animated films also include In Waves and Ray Gunn.
Steps premieres November 20, 2026, on Netflix.
