The Sacrifice Trailer Puts a Charity Gala at the Center of the Chaos
Evans plays a movie star who is going through an existential crisis when he attends a charity gala packed with celebrities and billionaires. The night changes when he is taken hostage by a radical warrior played by Taylor-Joy and her group of followers.
According to Netflix’s official logline, the situation sends the characters on both an inward journey and an outward adventure as the distinction between performance and belief, and salvation and sacrifice, starts to blur.
Taylor-Joy spoke about some of the ideas behind the movie in an interview with Netflix, describing Sacrifice as “such a meta movie to be a part of.”
“I see a lot about individual effort versus collective effort,” Taylor-Joy said. She also pointed to the way people can become numb to things that matter while choosing an easier and more entertaining way of looking at them.
“It’s this concept that you can sweep things under the rug, and I think Joan and her tribe are cold water in the face to that,” she added.
