Famous Last Words has released its posthumous interview with Gloria Steinem on Netflix. The private conversation was recorded in February 2025 and held until after the writer, lecturer, and feminist organizer’s death.
Emmy Award winner Brad Falchuk conducted the interview, which looks back at Steinem’s life, work, family, relationships, and more than half a century spent advocating for equality.
What Does Gloria Steinem Discuss in Famous Last Words?
The format of Famous Last Words is unusual by design. Interviews are recorded privately and kept confidential until after the subject’s death, allowing the conversation to be released as their final interview.
Steinem uses hers to discuss both her public work and parts of her personal life. The conversation covers her interest in the connections among sex, race, caste systems, Indigenous cultures, and the importance of organizing across different groups in the fight for equality.
She also talks about her family, relationships, regrets, and the complicated personal politics within the feminist movement.
Steinem spent much of her life as a journalist, writer, lecturer, and organizer. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama in 2013, and her books include My Life on the Road.
Her Famous Last Words conversation also addresses the roots of violence and the importance of non-violent conflict resolution before concluding with a final message to the next generation of activists.
“Gloria Steinem was the steady heartbeat of a revolution, but in this room, she was a woman reflecting on the simple, profound beauty of human connection,” Falchuk said in a statement accompanying the episode’s release.
He added that sharing Steinem’s final thoughts was “an extraordinary privilege.”

Steinem’s interview joins previous posthumous Famous Last Words installments featuring Dr. Jane Goodall and Eric Dane.
The series uses remotely operated cameras during its interviews, allowing the subject to speak without a traditional crew in the room.
Famous Last Words is based on the Danish format Det Sidste Ord. Falchuk and Mikkel Bondesen executive produce through Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision alongside BSNA, David Goldberg, and showrunner David Friedman.
