Netflix is expanding its push into podcasts. The streamer has renewed its entire initial lineup of original podcasts for additional episodes while announcing several more exclusives, including upcoming shows from Harlan Coben and Katt Williams.
The expansion comes as Netflix says it now has more than 60 podcasts available across true crime, sports, comedy, food and other genres. More outside podcasts are also coming to the service, including The Pivot Podcast and OUTLORE with Eleanor Neale.
Which Netflix Podcasts Have Been Renewed?
Netflix confirmed that its initial slate of original podcasts will return with additional episodes.
That includes:
- Murder with My Husband
- The Pete Davidson Show
- Shut Up Evan
- The Puzzle Room with David Kwong
- Allegedly with Ellison Barber.
Netflix hasn’t provided episode counts or release dates for the new installments.
The company is also adding original podcasts built specifically for Netflix, featuring both established podcast personalities and creators already connected to the streamer.
Among the biggest additions are new shows from Harlan Coben and Katt Williams, both expected later this year.
Coben already has an extensive relationship with Netflix through adaptations of his novels, including I Will Find You. His podcast will take a different approach, focusing on the unexpected events that can fundamentally change someone’s life.
In a statement accompanying Netflix’s announcement, Coben explained the idea behind the show:
“I’ve always been fascinated by plot twists, in fiction and in real life, especially the unexpected turns that change who we are.”
Coben said he plans to explore those moments with a wide range of guests, including writers, artists, entrepreneurs, actors, athletes and people with extraordinary personal stories.
Further details about Katt Williams’ podcast, including its title and release date, have not yet been announced.
More Netflix Original Podcasts Are Coming
Several other originals are joining Netflix’s growing podcast lineup.
On Campus: Game of the Week arrives September 4 and will follow students during the days leading up to game day. Two different students will host each installment, with the series moving to a new college campus every week to explore campus life, traditions, and tailgates surrounding the game.
True crime follows later in the month with Last Trace with Kaelyn Moore on September 28. The weekly show examines cases by following the available record to the point where the trail went cold and looking at what may have been missed.
Then, on October 22, real-life couple Allison Kuch and Isaac Rochell launch Couldn’t Agree Less with Allison & Isaac. The show will center on disagreements involving subjects such as money, parenting, jealousy, and in-laws, using audience submissions, guests, and pop culture discussions as part of the conversation.
Two additional Netflix originals are already streaming.
The Rotten Files with Stephanie Soo covers current true crime stories, including disappearances and high-profile trials.
Wishbone Kitchen is hosted by Meredith Hayden and combines cooking with conversations, recipes and practical kitchen tips.
The Pivot Podcast and OUTLORE Are Coming to Netflix
Netflix’s podcast catalog isn’t limited to shows created exclusively for the service.
The Pivot Podcast will become available on Netflix beginning September 8. Hosted by former NFL players Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor and Channing Crowder, the weekly show features conversations spanning sports, music and entertainment.
OUTLORE with Eleanor Neale follows on September 27, bringing Neale’s true crime storytelling to Netflix.
Both are existing podcasts coming to the platform rather than new Netflix Originals.
Netflix says its podcast catalog has now grown beyond 60 shows, with the latest renewals and additions set to expand that number further.
“Podcasts are a way for members to get more of the genres, stories and personalities they love,” Brandon Riegg, Netflix’s Vice President of Nonfiction Series, said as part of the announcement.
For Netflix, the next few weeks will bring a steady rollout: On Campus: Game of the Week on September 4, The Pivot Podcast on September 8, OUTLORE on September 27, and Last Trace on September 28, followed by Couldn’t Agree Less in October. Release dates for the Harlan Coben and Katt Williams originals have not yet been announced.
