Netflix has set a date for its new adaptation of East of Eden. The limited series premieres October 1, 2026, with Netflix also releasing the first images of Florence Pugh as Cathy Ames.
Adapted from John Steinbeck’s novel by Zoe Kazan, the series stars Pugh alongside Christopher Abbott and Mike Faist in the multigenerational story of the Trask family.

Florence Pugh Plays Cathy Ames in Netflix’s East of Eden
This version of East of Eden will put particular focus on Cathy Ames, one of the central characters in Steinbeck’s novel.
Pugh doesn’t just lead the cast. She also serves as an executive producer on the limited series.
For Kazan, who serves as co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer, Pugh was the clear choice for the role.
“I didn’t have another person that I thought would be just as good,” Kazan told Netflix’s Tudum. “She is the exact right person to play Cathy.”
Netflix describes the series as a modern interpretation of Steinbeck’s story, following the Trask family across multiple generations while giving new attention to Cathy.
Who Is in the East of Eden Cast?
Alongside Florence Pugh, East of Eden stars Christopher Abbott and Mike Faist.
The cast also includes Hoon Lee, Tracy Letts, Ciarán Hinds, Martha Plimpton, Joseph Zada and Joe Anders.
Zoe Kazan serves as co-showrunner with Jeb Stuart. Kazan is also a writer and executive producer, while Stuart serves as an executive producer.
Garth Davis directs Episodes 1 through 4 and serves as an executive producer. Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre directs Episodes 5 through 7 and is also an executive producer, confirming that the limited series will consist of seven episodes.
Antoine Douiahy, Zack Hayden, Steve Golin, David Levine and Jill Arthur are also executive producers. FIFTH SEASON and Anonymous Content are the co-studios behind the series.
