Netflix Expands Its YA Slate With Sid & Zoey, Sunshine Girls and More

Netflix has added two more series to its growing YA slate, while also sharing updates on several shows already on the way. The streamer has ordered supernatural romance Sid & Zoey and coming-of-age series Sunshine Girls, while Finding Her Edge Season 2 is preparing to begin production and Minimum Wage has added Randall Park to its cast.

The announcements came as part of a larger week of Netflix YA news that also included updates for Outer Banks, A Different World, Crew Girl, The Body and The Sticks. Taken together, the new information gives us a much better look at what Netflix has planned for its younger-skewing series and films through the rest of 2026 and beyond.

Sid & Zoey Is Netflix’s New Supernatural YA Romance

One of the biggest additions to the Netflix YA slate is Sid & Zoey, an eight-episode series that mixes supernatural mystery with romance.

Jon Kasdan (The First Time, Willow) created the series and will serve as showrunner, writer and executive producer alongside John Shiban (Ozark). J.J. Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich will executive produce for Bad Robot, with Jason Blum, James Wan and Rob Hackett executive producing for Blumhouse Atomic Monster.

The story begins when Sid, a sophisticated but amoral teenager from New York, is sent to live in the Mississippi town where his mother grew up. He stays with the local police chief and his family, including the chief’s punk-rock daughter, Zoey.

Sid and Zoey are attracted to each other despite trying to resist it, but romance isn’t their only problem. They become caught up in a supernatural mystery connected to a darker world hiding beneath their seemingly idyllic town.

Netflix has not announced casting or a release date for Sid & Zoey.

Sunshine Girls Is Coming to Netflix in December 2026

Netflix also announced Sunshine Girls, a new coming-of-age series from Brat TV that already has a December 2026 release window.

The series stars Alma Marian as Olivia, Isabella Fowler as Taylor, and Erin Rose Park as Riley.

Olivia has spent her entire life in New York City, but her parents’ separation sends her to Valley Hills, California, where she has to start over at a new school. There she meets Taylor, described as a “horse girl,” and Riley, an influencer.

The three enter freshman year together, dealing with first kisses, family problems, and the general mess of trying to figure out where they fit.

Rob Fishman and Nuria Anson created the series and serve as executive producers. Elisabeth Rogge, Mary Lambert and Gavin Laing are writers, with Allex Tarr directing.

Unlike Sid & Zoey, Sunshine Girls doesn’t have a long wait for a release window. Netflix has confirmed it will premiere in December, although an exact date has not yet been announced.

Finding Her Edge Season 2 Starts Production in August

Netflix also provided an update on Finding Her Edge Season 2, confirming that production is scheduled to begin later in August.

Madelyn Keys, Cale Ambrozic and Olly Atkins will all return for the second season.

The production update follows Netflix’s previous renewal of the series and puts Season 2 another step forward, although there is still no release date.

Netflix also cited the response to the first season as part of its larger YA push, noting that Finding Her Edge led to a 1,300% increase in global searches for the audiobook on Spotify.

Randall Park Joins Netflix’s Minimum Wage

There’s also more information about Minimum Wage, the upcoming workplace comedy based on the American High Shorts series.

Randall Park has joined the cast as Mr. Sylvester, the eccentric boss of the pizza shop where the series takes place. He joins Aidan Micho, Grace Reiter, Hyde Healy, Julia Dicesare, Luke Burke, Ryan Micho and Tommy Armstrong.

The show follows a group of teenagers trying to keep a local pizzeria running while dealing with school, their boss and the everyday headaches of working a minimum-wage job.

Jeremy Garelick and Will Phelps are the showrunners, writers and executive producers, with Axelle Azoulay also serving as executive producer.

Netflix has ordered 28 episodes running approximately 12.5 minutes each. The first 14 episodes will debut sometime in 2026, but the streamer has not announced an exact release date.

The original American High Shorts launched across social platforms in 2022, while the Minimum Wage shorts themselves began in May 2024.

Netflix Expands Its YA Slate With Sid & Zoey, Sunshine Girls and More

Netflix Has Several More YA Series on the Way

The week’s announcements went beyond those four shows.

Netflix revealed the title of The Sticks and released new character posters and a franchise trailer for Outer Banks. A Different World announced that Brandy will perform its theme song, while Crew Girl received a new trailer.

Netflix also released a first look at The Body and confirmed that the series will premiere on November 11.

Those projects join a larger upcoming YA lineup that includes Poser and films Don’t Say Good Luck and Best of the Best. Don’t Say Good Luck, directed by Julia Hart and starring Sunny Sandler, Melanie Lynskey and Max Greenfield, began streaming on Netflix on August 14.

Netflix is also continuing some of its established YA series, including Ginny & Georgia, Outer Banks and My Life With the Walter Boys.

For now, Sunshine Girls and The Body are among the new shows with confirmed 2026 release windows, while Netflix has yet to announce when Sid & Zoey will arrive.
