A Clueless sequel series is officially coming to Paramount+, with Alicia Silverstone returning as Cher Horowitz more than 30 years after the original movie. The event series will follow Cher as an adult and mother, with production scheduled to begin in Los Angeles in 2027.
Silverstone will also executive produce the series, which is being written by Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and Jordan Weiss. Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the 1995 film, is also returning as an executive producer.
The Clueless Sequel Series Finds Cher Raising a Teenager of Her Own
The new series picks up 30 years after Clueless, with Cher having built a successful career and become a mother. It’s her daughter’s high school years that throw her for a loop.
According to Paramount+, Cher has “figured out a lot” since we last saw her. She’s successful in business and thought she had motherhood under control, but parenting a teenager leaves her feeling clueless all over again. That puts Cher on the other side of the high school experience that defined the original movie, this time trying to understand it as a parent.
Paramount+ has not revealed who will play Cher’s daughter or announced any additional cast members.
Alicia Silverstone and Amy Heckerling Are Both Returning
Silverstone’s return won’t be limited to playing Cher. She will serve as an executive producer alongside Heckerling and original Clueless producer Robert Lawrence.
Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, whose credits include The O.C., Gossip Girl, and Nancy Drew, will write and executive produce through Fake Empire. Jordan Weiss, whose credits include Freakier Friday and Dollface, is also a writer and executive producer. CBS Studios will produce the series.
The involvement of both Silverstone and Heckerling also keeps two of the people most closely associated with the original film directly involved in Cher’s next chapter.
Clueless Will Return to Los Angeles for Filming in 2027
Production on the Clueless sequel series is scheduled to begin in Los Angeles in 2027.
The location is a deliberate return to the setting of the original film. Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals for Paramount+, said in the announcement that the streamer is “especially proud” to film the series in Los Angeles while investing in local crews and talent.
The series follows the 30th anniversary of Clueless, which was celebrated in 2025 with members of the original cast and Heckerling reuniting for a 35mm screening at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. The original film was also recently added to the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
Paramount+ has not announced how many episodes the event series will have or when it will premiere. It has confirmed that the series will stream exclusively on Paramount+ globally.
