Beth finally gets the business breakthrough she has been chasing in Episode 3 of Dutton Ranch. Unfortunately for Rip, that success comes at the same time a dangerous disease begins spreading through the cattle herd.
While Beth spends the episode fighting for the future of Rio Paloma’s beef operation, Rip finds himself dealing with one crisis after another. A sick cow forces the ranch into quarantine, Zachariah’s past comes back to haunt him, and by the end of the hour it becomes clear that the problem is only getting worse.
Beth Takes Rio Paloma Beef to Dallas
The episode opens with Beth waking up and discovering Rip is already gone. He still has not told her about the body he found on their land and secretly disposed of, choosing instead to enjoy a quiet horseback ride together before Beth head to Dallas.
One of the nicest touches comes during the morning scenes at the ranch, where we see the only calf rescued during the Montana wildfire storyline.

Beulah is clearly unhappy that she wasn’t informed sooner. She reminds Wade that her support during his election campaign was significant and suggests he should remember that moving forward.
Later, Beulah visits Wes’ wife, only to discover she has left home in a hurry. Given what viewers saw in Episode 2, that development immediately raises concerns for Beulah.
Rip Discovers a Potential Disaster
While Beth works in Dallas, Rip faces a growing emergency at Rio Paloma.
Azul notices that one of the cows is sick. Rip and Zachariah quickly recognize the signs and are forced to put the animal down.
Veterinarian Everett confirms their fears. The cow appears to have contracted foot-and-mouth disease, a highly contagious illness that could spread throughout the herd. Everett suspects a recently purchased bull may have introduced the disease.

Zachariah Confronts His Past
As the men prepare for quarantine, Ana Dupree suddenly arrives armed with a gun and looking for Zachariah.
The confrontation reveals another piece of Zachariah’s tragic history. Ana’s daughter Teresa died because of him.
Instead of fighting back, Zachariah drops to his knees and appears ready to accept whatever happens. Rip eventually calms the situation and manages to take the weapon away before anyone is hurt.
That night around the campfire, Everett explains the full story.
Years earlier, Zachariah and Teresa had been secretly in love. After a painful argument, a drunk and heartbroken Zachariah attempted to leave. While reversing his truck, he accidentally struck and killed her.
Although Azul insists it was an accident, Zachariah continues to view the event as unforgivable. Prison eventually led him to faith, but the guilt never disappeared.
Everett explains that the entire community carried the pain of Teresa’s death, and Zachariah became the target for much of that anger. Azul offers a different perspective, telling him that while forgiveness cannot be demanded, a person can choose to give it to themselves.
The conversation gives viewers a much deeper understanding of Zachariah and why redemption remains such an important part of his story.
Carter and Oreana Take Things Further
Meanwhile, Carter skips school to spend time with Oreana.

Later that night, Oreana joins Carter in his room at the ranch. After sharing a joint and talking quietly together, their relationship becomes physical for the first time.
Beth Lands a Huge Opportunity
After arriving in Dallas, she immediately gets to work.
At a high-end restaurant, she wins over a chef by offering to cover a tip shortfall if the restaurant agrees to cook one of her ribeye samples.
The gamble works. The restaurant manager is impressed by the quality of the beef and learns that Beth and Rip are now running cattle on the former Edwards Ranch. While he likes the product, he warns her that competition in Dallas is fierce.
He points her toward Frontier Hospitality Group and its powerful representative, Zane Nash. According to him, Zane can be difficult.
Beth has never been intimidated by difficult people.
Later, she unexpectedly crosses paths with Joaquin Reyes. Viewers finally learn more about his role at 10 Petal Ranch. Joaquin functions as Beulah’s trusted fixer and problem solver, someone she raised almost like a son.
Their brief conversation reveals that Beulah has already taken notice of Beth.

Just when Beth finally receives the call she has been waiting for, Rip delivers worrying news.
