What Forever Season 2 Is About

The Forever Season 2 storyline moves the series forward by four years.

According to Netflix’s official logline, Justin and Keisha are now navigating adulthood in the summer of 2023 with new jobs, new relationships, and different versions of themselves after the pandemic years.

The central question of the season is introduced directly in the logline: “Can exes really be friends?”

Netflix describes the pair as doing relatively well apart until they unexpectedly run into each other again.

Creator, showrunner, and executive producer Mara Brock Akil also shared additional details about the emotional focus of the season in a statement.

Akil said the new episodes will explore friendship alongside romance, particularly during the uncertain period between adolescence and adulthood.

“Every choice feels final, even though it’s your first time being truly grown,” Akil said.

She also described Season 2 as continuing to examine one of the show’s central themes: “Is forever truly forever?”

Music Team Expands for the New Season

Netflix also announced updates to the music team for Season 2.

Grammy Award-winning Khris Riddick-Tynes joins the series as executive music producer.

Meanwhile:

  • Kier Lehman returns as music supervisor
  • Original music will once again come from Until Tomorrow

Music played a major role in the first season’s identity, and Netflix confirmed the creative team behind the soundtrack will continue evolving for the next chapter of the story.

The streamer has not yet announced a release date for Season 2.
