This warning is validated later when we find out Robert’s wealthy family hired a crisis PR firm to leak the Davide photo specifically to smear Nancy and protect their own reputation.
Chasing the Ghost
While Eleanor is caught between her brother and Robert, Mary is spiraling in her own way. She’s obsessed with the police report, eventually getting herself arrested for harassing the department with public records requests. Once Eleanor bails her out, the two decide to track down Davide themselves.
Their meeting with Davide is tense. He explains that he and Nancy met through his art, but he can’t, or won’t, identify the man Nancy was with at the party in the photo. He leaves them with a stinging parting shot: “Where were you both when Nancy was spiraling?” It’s a question that haunts Eleanor for the rest of the episode.
The Ojai Incident
The episode culminates in a trip to the family’s Ojai house to drop off Nancy’s belongings. In the quiet of the secluded home, grief turns into a “bad decision.” Eleanor and Robert give in to their history and hook up on the couch.
However, the morning brings a chilling discovery. While Robert sleeps, Eleanor finds a letter he wrote to Nancy. The episode ends on a cliffhanger as Robert walks into the room, catching Eleanor with the evidence in her hand.
