TYGO: Netflix Expands the Extraction Universe to South Korea

TYGO Netflix expands one of the streamer’s biggest action properties with a standalone story set in Korea’s criminal underworld.

Built within the shared Extraction universe, the film centers on Tygo, a former child soldier turned mercenary, played by Don Lee. The project moves the franchise into new territory while keeping its focus on character, conflict, and large-scale action.

Netflix released new details alongside photos from the first table read, marking the start of production and confirming the film’s principal cast, creative team, and producing partners.

What TYGO Brings to the Extraction Universe

TYGO follows Tygo as he sets out on a revenge-driven mission after a job goes wrong. His journey moves through Korea’s underworld, where old loyalties, hidden histories, and violent power structures shape every step he takes.

Don Lee headlines the film after global recognition from The Roundup franchise and his appearance in Eternals. He developed the project for years and now leads the cast in what marks his return to Netflix.

Joining him is Lalisa “LISA” Manobal, the global performer who made her acting debut in The White Lotus Season 3. TYGO is her first major film role, and the production highlights this as a significant step in her screen career.

The cast also includes Lee Jin-uk, known internationally for Squid Game. His involvement adds another strong presence within the franchise’s expanding world.

The Team Behind TYGO

TYGO Netflix is directed by Lee Sang-yong, known for The Roundup and The Roundup: No Way Out.
Cha Woo-jin writes the screenplay.

The producing teams include:

  • Big Punch Pictures, led by Don Lee
  • AGBO, with Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco and Albert J. Kim
  • Nova Film’s Won-ki Choi
  • B&C Group’s Chris S. Lee

Netflix distributes the film globally.

This marks the ninth collaboration between AGBO and Netflix, reflecting an ongoing production partnership across several major titles.

Where TYGO Fits in the Extraction Franchise

TYGO Netflix sits within the same universe as Extraction and Extraction 2, both of which remain among Netflix’s most-watched action releases. The franchise originated in a graphic novel by Anthony and Joe Russo and Ande Parks.

The first Extraction film reached 90 million households in its first month. The second debuted at number one on Netflix’s global chart and held its position for seven weeks, surpassing 123 million views.

A new Extraction series is also in development under showrunner Glen Mazzara, signaling the franchise’s continued expansion across formats and regions.

TYGO joins that ecosystem as a fully self-contained story while sharing the broader universe established by the two films.

Cast Statements

The production released comments from the three leads:

  • Don Lee described the project as one he has been developing with AGBO for years.
  • Lalisa “LISA” Manobal expressed gratitude for her first major film role and the chance to take part in an action project.
  • Lee Jin-uk shared that joining the Extraction universe is meaningful to him as a longtime fan.

Looking Ahead to TYGO’s Release

TYGO enters production as one of the next major entries in the Extraction universe. With its new setting, cast, and creative team, the film marks a shift into a different geographic and narrative space for the franchise. More updates, including release timing and promotional material, are expected as production progresses.
