Maya Hawke Brings Voice to Netflix’s Horror-Nature Hybrid Nightmares of Nature

Netflix has unveiled the Nightmares of Nature Netflix series, a bold new project that fuses wildlife filmmaking with the language of horror cinema.

Created by Blumhouse Television and Plimsoll Productions, the show is narrated by Maya Hawke and arrives this fall with two seasons set to premiere back-to-back.

Horror Meets Natural History

Nightmares of Nature reframes survival as horror, following animal characters through landscapes that are both beautiful and terrifying. Each season features three protagonists whose fight to stay alive is shaped not only by predators and environments, but also by the unsettling tension of genre storytelling.

Hawke’s narration brings a sharp tone to the experiment, anchoring the episodes with a voice that is at once haunting and playful. Her casting ensures the series will draw attention well beyond nature documentary circles.

Season 1: A Cabin in the Woods

Launching September 30, the first season unfolds in the dark forests of North America. A pregnant mouse, a restless raccoon, and a fragile froglet confront dangers at every turn. When they discover an abandoned cabin, it seems like sanctuary—until the nightmare deepens inside its walls.

Directed by Nathan Small and produced by Doug Mackay-Hope, the season runs three episodes at 45 minutes each. Jason Blum serves as executive producer, alongside Martha Holmes, Mark Brownlow, Grant Mansfield, Gretchen Palek, and Matt Sarshik.

Season 2: Lost in the Jungle

On October 28, the second season transports viewers to Central America’s rainforests. Here, a young opossum, a hatchling iguana, and a jumping spider must navigate a labyrinthine jungle, and an abandoned laboratory teeming with new monsters.

Directed by Charlotte Lathane, with Mackay-Hope again producing, Season 2 also spans three 45-minute episodes. The premise leans even more into horror, layering natural danger with a psychological edge.

Why This Series Stands Out

The Nightmares of Nature Netflix series is striking because it unites two storytelling traditions rarely seen together. Blumhouse brings horror pedigree, while Plimsoll offers natural history expertise. The collaboration creates something that feels both familiar and unsettling, asking audiences to experience the natural world in a new way.

The release strategy, two full seasons timed for fall, shows Netflix’s confidence in the format. Positioned ahead of Halloween, it’s likely to become a conversation piece for both horror fans and wildlife enthusiasts.
