Gwendoline Christie Returns in Wednesday Season 2 Part 2, With a Supernatural Twist

Netflix has confirmed that Wednesday Season 2 Part 2 will not only pick up the dark and witty energy of Part 1, but also deliver a surprise fans never saw coming.

Gwendoline Christie is back as Principal Larissa Weems, despite her apparent demise in Season 1.

The new batch of episodes premieres September 3, 2025, following Part 1’s August 6 debut. Fans will see Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) navigate the halls of Nevermore Academy with a new, spectral sidekick: her once-loathed principal, now acting as her spirit guide.

The Big Reveal: “Nobody in Our World is Truly Dead Dead”

Christie’s return was revealed during the Wednesday “Doom Tour” press conference in Sydney, where she appeared alongside Jenna Ortega, Emma Myers, Tim Burton, and series creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. Gough teased the twist with a telling line: “Nobody in our world is truly dead dead.”

That sentiment is proving true for Weems, who will now play a central role from beyond the grave, offering biting advice, cryptic warnings, and possibly meddling in Wednesday’s latest mystery.

A Darker, More Dangerous Semester

Part 2 raises the stakes at Nevermore. Wednesday will face supernatural threats tied to both family secrets and the Academy’s past. Her banter with Weems’ ghostly presence promises sharp comedic beats, but it’s layered with tension, Weems may know more than she’s letting on.

Gaga’s Ophelia seems positioned as a wild card in the Addams family dynamic, bringing an unpredictable energy to the series alongside the returning ensemble of Emma Myers, Steve Buscemi, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, and Hunter Doohan.

The Wednesday Phenomenon

First released in 2022, Wednesday became Netflix’s most popular English-language series of all time, spending 20 weeks in the Global Top 10 and inspiring viral trends across TikTok, Instagram, and beyond. Jenna Ortega’s portrayal transformed her public profile, her follower count jumping from 9 million to 37 million during Season 1’s rollout.

The show’s cultural ripple effect included a gothic fashion revival, makeup sellouts, and music resurgences, from The Cramps’ “Goo Goo Muck” to Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary.” Season 2 continues to lean into this cultural momentum, with Netflix already confirming a third season.

What to Expect in the Coming Weeks

With just a short gap between Part 1 and Part 2, fans can expect cliffhangers to hit hard. Netflix’s release strategy keeps the buzz high and speculation constant.

If Part 1 sets up the central mystery, Part 2 seems poised to deliver the payoffs, with Weems’ spectral influence and Ophelia’s ominous presence playing a major part. And knowing Tim Burton’s flair for finales, it’s safe to expect a visually striking, emotionally sharp conclusion to this chapter.
