Netflix has officially renewed Untamed for a second season, and it looks like the next chapter won’t just continue Kyle Turner’s story, it’ll challenge everything we thought we knew about him.
Following its strong debut in the Netflix Top 10, the series will shift from the fog-draped cliffs of Yosemite to an entirely new national park, with an entirely new case. Eric Bana returns as ISB agent Kyle Turner, and this time, he won’t be the one with all the answers.
“Turner was so comfortable in Yosemite,” co-creator Mark L. Smith said, “Now we’re putting him on his back foot.”
What Season 2 Will Look Like
Season 1 ended with Kyle leaving Yosemite behind, emotionally drained, physically battered, and ready for something different. Season 2 picks up with Turner already having worked several cases in between. His next stop? A national park with a completely different identity. One that will act as both a setting and a psychological mirror for the character.
“Each national park has its own personality,” said co-creator Elle Smith. “The new park will influence the tone, the case, and Turner’s mindset.”
Unlike Season 1’s murder-mystery-in-the-wilderness structure, the second installment will explore new terrain both literally and narratively. The creators hint that the case will be more emotionally impactful, and that Turner will no longer be the authority figure. Instead, he’ll be the outsider, unsettled and off balance.
Will Anyone Return from Season 1?
That’s still up in the air. The showrunners have expressed interest in bringing back characters from Yosemite, but there’s no confirmation yet. One thing’s clear: any returning faces would have to fit organically into Turner’s new surroundings, or into his past.
“We loved our cast,” Smith said. “In an ideal world, we’d find a way.”
From Limited Series to Ongoing Drama
Here at The Viewer’s Perspective, we suspected this might happen. Our original recap noted that although Untamed was presented as a limited series, its ending, with Kyle driving off, destination unknown, left just enough space for a continuation. Netflix has a habit of extending limited projects when they perform well, and Untamed fits the pattern.
The first season wrapped up the Lucy Cook investigation, but it didn’t wrap Kyle Turner. That story, clearly, isn’t finished.
What Comes Next
Season 2 will explore new territory in every sense. A new park. A new case. And a Kyle Turner who’s no longer in control. The mystery is still under wraps, but one thing is certain: wherever Kyle ends up next, the wilderness won’t be the only thing testing him.
