Netflix is adapting Jhumpa Lahiri’s celebrated short story collection Unaccustomed Earth into a new eight-episode drama series and Freida Pinto is set to lead it.

Pinto will play Parul Chaudhury, the central figure in a sweeping, emotionally charged series that explores the tangled lives of an elite Indian-American community in Cambridge, Massachusetts. As secrets surface and relationships unravel, the show promises a complex portrayal of identity, tradition, and personal freedom.
The series is created and written by Madhuri Shekar (3 Body Problem, The Nevers) and will be directed by Ritesh Batra (The Lunchbox), who helms the first two episodes. Both serve as executive producers alongside Jhumpa Lahiri herself, John Wells (Shameless), and a creative team that includes Nisha Ganatra, Erica Saleh, Erin Jontow, and Celia Costas.
