Dan Levy is headed back to series television, and this time, he’s swapping small-town charm for family dysfunction and organized crime. Netflix has officially greenlit a new half-hour comedy, co-created by Levy and Rachel Sennott, centered on two struggling siblings who get dragged into the criminal underworld after a blackmail scheme upends their already messy lives.
This untitled series marks the first project under Levy’s overall deal with Netflix through his banner Not a Real Production Company and signals a shift in tone from his previous work. Production is set to begin later this year.
A Sibling Disaster, with Criminal Consequences
At the heart of the eight-episode series are two deeply unqualified siblings, forced to reckon with the consequences of their own recklessness as they get tangled in organized crime. Expect family tensions, darkly comic hijinks, and a tone that balances absurdity with emotional sharpness, a mix that Levy’s fans have come to appreciate.
While the siblings’ names haven’t been revealed, Taylor Ortega (Welcome to Flatch) will star alongside Emmy winner Laurie Metcalf (Lady Bird, Hacks, Roseanne), with Dan Levy also joining the cast. Metcalf is set to play the family matriarch, promising plenty of razor-sharp one-liners and maternal chaos.
A New Creative Collaboration
Levy shares creator and executive producer duties with Rachel Sennott, the breakout voice behind Bottoms and Shiva Baby. This marks their first project together and brings together two distinct comedic sensibilities: Levy’s character-driven warmth and Sennott’s deadpan bite.
In a statement, Levy called the show “a truly chaotic family story” and noted his excitement about casting Ortega in the lead role, adding, “It’s been my life’s mission to get to call Laurie Metcalf ‘mother.’”
Behind the Scenes
The show is currently listed on industry sites under a working title, but no official name has been released. It will consist of eight episodes and is expected to begin filming later in 2025. Additional details about the supporting cast and directors are still under wraps.
This is Levy’s second original scripted series following the Emmy-winning success of Schitt’s Creek, and it follows his feature film debut Good Grief, which premiered in 2024.
With a blend of family dysfunction, botched criminal activity, and Levy’s signature comedic voice, this new series is shaping up to be a fresh and unexpected addition to Netflix’s comedy slate.
Stay tuned for more updates as production gets underway.
