Fear Street: Prom Queen – Netflix Unleashes a New Chapter of Teen Terror This May

Shadyside Returns for a Bloody Prom Night in Fear Street: Prom Queen

Netflix is diving back into the cursed town of Shadyside with the latest chilling installment in the Fear Street franchise. Fear Street: Prom Queen drops globally on May 23, 2025, promising another dark and deadly tale rooted in teen horror and high school politics, drenched in suspense and 1980s nostalgia.

Directed by Matt Palmer and co-written by Palmer and Donald McLeary, this newest entry draws its inspiration from the beloved R.L. Stine novel of the same name. Set during the spring of 1988, the film explores the shadowy underbelly of Shadyside High, where the race for prom queen becomes a fight for survival.

Plot: When Popularity Turns Deadly

In true Fear Street fashion, this isn’t your average prom season. A clique of powerful It Girls controls Shadyside High, manipulating votes and crushing competition with ruthless flair. But when a determined outsider enters the race, things take a sinister turn. One by one, the reigning queens of popularity start vanishing under mysterious and grisly circumstances. What begins as a high school rivalry quickly escalates into a chilling murder mystery.

This 1980s-set slasher combines biting social commentary with classic genre tropes—bloody prom gowns, neon lighting, and a synth-heavy score included. Fear Street: Prom Queen keeps the franchise’s signature blend of horror, camp, and character-driven drama intact while bringing fresh blood to the series.
