The Royals on Netflix: A Glamorous Royal Rom-Com with an Indian Twist Premieres May 9

Netflix and Pritish Nandy Communications are teaming up for the very first time to deliver a royal treat: The Royals, a vibrant, whip-smart rom-com set to debut on May 9, 2025.

Set in the fictional city of Morpur, this new Indian original blends classic royalty with modern ambition in a sizzling tale of love, drama, and unapologetic charm.

Love, Laughter, and Legacy Collide in Morpur

In a palace long past its glory days, a struggling royal family clings to tradition—with little more than a title to their name. Enter Sophia Shekhar, an ambitious CEO played by Bhumi Pednekar, who arrives to set things right. But reforming the faded grandeur of Morpur Palace isn’t half as complicated as managing its rebellious royal, Rajkumar (played by Ishaan Khatter), a carefree party prince with more swagger than sense.

When Sophia’s corporate polish meets the prince’s princely ego, what follows is a classic case of opposites attract. Sparks fly, egos clash, and a slow-burn romance unfolds, layered with humour, heartfelt moments, and a touch of royal chaos.

Netflix’s Take: A Royal Romance with Global Appeal

Tanya Bami, Series Head at Netflix India, sums it up best:

“The Royals brings sizzle and swoon to a world that’s unapologetically Indian. It’s not just a love story, it’s royalty reimagined—with heart, humour, and high style.”

Think of it as Bridgerton meets Emily in Paris, but with the colour, chaos, and charm of India. It’s a fresh, binge-worthy take on what happens when tradition meets transformation—and when love dares to break all the rules.
