Netflix is taking another bold step into boundary-pushing storytelling with Snakes and Ladders, a sharp, provocative dark comedy premiering May 14, 2025.
From acclaimed creator Manolo Caro, the mind behind The House of Flowers, and reuniting with longtime collaborator Cecilia Suárez, this new series blends power struggles, moral dilemmas, and wicked humor into a story that promises to be anything but predictable.
A Return to Form for Manolo Caro
“Snakes and Ladders is a project I’ve been developing for several years now,” says Caro. “It’s a dark, sexy, and inappropriate comedy… a return to the genre that makes me happiest, but with everything I’ve learned along the way. It’s crazy.”
Known for pushing the limits of style and tone in Spanish-language television, Caro’s latest offering dives headfirst into moral ambiguity, temptation, and societal satire—all with his signature visual flair and biting wit.

Plot: When Small Incidents Spiral into Chaos
Set in a prestigious school in Guadalajara, the series centers on Dora, played by Cecilia Suárez—a seemingly mild-mannered school prefect with big dreams of becoming principal. But everything changes when a playground quarrel between two 8-year-olds from powerful families spins out of control.
What begins as a petty dispute becomes a full-blown political scandal, pulling Dora into a tangled web of ambition, temptation, and compromise. Her strong ethical code is pushed to the brink, as she navigates a minefield of chocolate bribes, recreational drugs, tarot readings, and after-hours karaoke.
With each decision carrying weighty consequences, Snakes and Ladders asks a searing question: How much would you risk for status, respect—or survival?
