Almost two months since the release of Sweet Magnolias Season 4 on Netflix, fans are still eager for an update: a renewal.
Although there’s been no formal cancellation, Netflix has been quiet regarding the series’ future, and this silence is beginning to convey a lot. Could Season 4 mark the conclusion for Serenity?
1- Netflix Still Hasn’t Renewed It
The delay in renewal is notable for a series with a dedicated fan base. Season 4 was released in early February 2025, and currently, Netflix has not announced anything regarding a fifth season. Although the platform is accustomed to waiting for performance metrics, this extended lack of communication usually points to uncertainty—particularly for character-focused dramas like this series.

2- No Production Has Started for Season 5
In contrast to other series that start production silently behind the scenes, Sweet Magnolias seems to be at a halt. There are currently no updates on pre-production, filming, or casting calls, nor is anything publicly planned in the fictional town of Serenity. Given that this series typically films well in advance of its release, this gap indicates a potential conclusion to the process.
3- WGA Listings Hint at a Writers’ Room—But No Details Confirmed
A Writers Guild of America listing indicates that a Season 5 writers’ room might be in the works; however, no official confirmation has been issued. Neither Netflix nor the showrunner, Sheryl J. Anderson, has validated ongoing development. While this offers a glimmer of hope, it is still not a definitive approval.
The writers’ room for Season 5, as stated by WGA
- Sheryl J. Anderson Showrunner
- Sheryl J. Anderson Executive Producer
- Michelle Denise Jackson Supervising Producer
- Abdi Nazemian Co-Producer
- Barret Helms Executive Story Editor
- Kale Futterman Executive Story Editor
- Sara Jumel Story Editor
- Alex Rubin Staff Writer

4- Season 4 Left Some Arcs Open—But Not Cliffhangers
Ironically, Season 3 had all the hallmarks of a wrap-up season: emotional goodbyes, reconciliations, and a final shot that could have served as a heartfelt sendoff.
The conclusion of Season 4 lacked the grandeur of a typical finale, yet it also avoided a significant cliffhanger. Helen and Erik became engaged, Maddie and Cal embraced their married life, and the Mini Magnolias celebrated their future together. While some storylines, such as Maddie’s possible career change and the fate of Ty and Annie, remain open, none are so unresolved that they necessitate another season.
If this is indeed the conclusion, it won’t feel like a betrayal—only a gentle farewell.
5- Viewership Was Good, But Not Groundbreaking
Sweet Magnolias Season 4 topped Netflix’s global chart for the week of February 10. However, Season 4 experienced a slight decline compared to the launch of Season 3, with only 4 million views in the first four days.
Netflix often prioritizes series with substantial numbers and viral buzz—something Sweet Magnolias hasn’t depended on for survival.

So, Is This the End?
Maybe. While fans (and the cast) would love to return to Serenity, the lack of clear direction from Netflix makes the future uncertain. Season 4 offered closure wrapped in warmth—not a finale, but possibly a farewell. And if Sweet Magnolias really has reached its final season, it’s bowed out with grace, gratitude, and just enough room for fans to imagine what comes next.
I love this tv series I wish for it to keep
going . It would be nice to see the three young magnolias on their journey in life . And to see Helen and Eric get married as well…
Please make a season 5 of Sweet Magnolias. I definitely love watching Sweet Magnolias I started watching it with my wife in season 4 then I even watched all 4 seasons 2 more times since then. We definitely are thinking about driving down to Covington Georgia to visit were Sweet Magnolias was filmed at probably in October of next spring. So please make a season 5 of Sweet Magnolias.
I will CANCEL Netflix if there isn’t a Season 5
Amen
Love, love Sweet Magnolias! They need to continue this series… it is amazing!
I’m a nearly 60 year old GAY BLACK MAN 🖤 that grew up in the deep South ( Brunswick,GA) My town was very much like Serenity, South Carolina.
I absolutely love this show, but I believe Season 4 should be the Series Finale.
Everything was wrapped up, with some minor unresolved plots.
The teens!! They will figure it out.
What I would like to see in a few years is a Movie on Netflix with the cast getting together for the wedding of the couple that got engaged at the end of the season/series Finale.
Thank you to the cast.
It was such a nice ride, it reminds me of sipping sweet tea on the porch in the evening of a Hot Summer 🌞 day in the south.
I will miss the show, but it ended well.
Just my opinion.
I think Sweet Magnolias is the Best series I’ve ever watched. That and The Resident!
You can’t find good wholesome movies anymore with kindness and love so evident. Please continue Sweet Magnolias!!
