Life, Love, and Letting Go—In the Arctic

At the heart of the series is Siaja (played by Anna Lambe), a young Inuk woman who makes a dramatic, very public exit from her marriage. But a fresh start is easier said than done in a small Arctic town where everyone knows your past—and your business.

With sharp writing, layered characters, and emotional depth, North of North captures the push-and-pull between independence and community, identity and expectation, tradition and transformation.

A Story Rooted in Inuit Experience

Created and executive produced by Stacey Aglok MacDonald and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril, North of North offers a rare on-screen perspective: that of modern Inuit life, told by Inuit creatives.

“While these stories are all fictional, a lot of them come from grains of truth in our lives,” said MacDonald. “It feels like we’re opening up our diary to the world, which is scary but also incredibly cathartic.”

Arnaquq-Baril adds:

“Sometimes the most beautiful and powerful illustrations of humanity come when we are at our most ridiculous and raw. It’s exciting to bring our lived experiences as modern Inuit to the global stage.”

Filmed Across Iqaluit and Toronto

Production took place in Iqaluit, Nunavut, and Toronto, Ontario, blending authentic Northern landscapes with urban textures that reflect the show’s emotional and cultural layers.

Lead actress Anna Lambe shared why the role spoke to her:

“I saw a story that I was familiar with—about so many people I grew up with. That drove me to want to be a part of telling it, to unpack all of Siaja’s layers and explore why she is the way she is.”
