Netflix has officially renewed the breakout sports comedy Running Point for a highly anticipated second season.
Created by Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen, the series has quickly become one of Netflix’s most buzzed-about originals—earning 9.3 million views in its debut week and ranking in the Top 10 across 83 countries.
“We are so thrilled to be able to deliver a Season 2 of Running Point to the fans of the show,” co-creator and executive producer Mindy Kaling told. “We still cannot believe the response from audiences—thank you to everyone who has watched! And thank you to our partners at Netflix, Warner Brothers, our star Kate Hudson, and of course, executive producers Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis, without whom there would be no Running Point.”

Season 1 Recap: Isla Gordon Takes the Lead
In Season 1, we meet Isla Gordon (played by Kate Hudson), a savvy, sharp, and ambitious woman who’s been quietly working behind the scenes of her family’s pro basketball team, the Los Angeles Waves. But when a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla unexpectedly finds herself promoted to team president—a role no one, least of all her skeptical brothers or the board, believes she’s ready for.
As Isla steps into the spotlight, she’s determined to prove she has the business sense, vision, and grit to run a major franchise. Over the course of ten episodes, Isla battles misogyny, team politics, player egos, and family drama—all while trying to modernize the Waves and find her own voice as a leader.
The ensemble cast includes
- Brenda Song

- and more, each bringing hilarious, heartfelt energy to Isla’s chaotic world.
Season 1 balanced laugh-out-loud comedy with relevant themes around gender equity, power dynamics, and family legacy—all set against the backdrop of professional sports.
What to Expect in Season 2
While plot details are still under wraps, Season 2 promises more high-stakes front office drama, on-court mishaps, and personal evolution for Isla and the Waves.
