Owen Browning (Adam Devine) is a straitlaced bank manager about to marry the love of his life, Parker (Nina Dobrev). When his bank is held up by the infamous Ghost Bandits during his wedding week, he believes his future in-laws (Pierce Brosnan and Ellen Barkin), who just arrived in town, are the infamous outlaws.
Things get even more complicated when Parker is kidnapped and held for ransom by Billy and Lilly’s former partner-in-crime Rehan (Poorna Jagannathan), forcing Owen and the Ghost Bandits to team up and go on an unlikely crime spree to save her.
The Out-Laws is produced by Adam Sandler and Devine himself making this installment the third collaboration with Netflix for him.
The director, Tyler Spindel describes the movie as an action version of Meet the Parents, the premise sounds great, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, the premise doesn’t stick to the landing.

While seeing it, we got a sense of randez-vous, it truly looks like something already seen multiple times.
The plot is very predictable and not extremely funny, the jokes and puns don’t deliver most of the time, and that is such a shame considering the star-stunned cast of this movie.
The cast is formidable and packed with incredible cast members: Adam DeVine, Nina Dobrev, Ellen Barkin, Pierce Brosnan, Julie Hagerty, Richard Kind, Michael Rooker, Poorna Jagannathan, Lil Rel Howery, Blake Anderson, and Lauren Lapkus.
Poorna Jagannathan is simply hilarious and great in the movie as the villain, while Lil Rel Howery, Blake Anderson, Lauren Lapkus, and Richard Kind are wasted considering their talent and the very little screentime they got.
It seems the movie centers on Brosnan and Devine more. Not only do they have more scenes together compared to Devine and Dobrev or Devine and Barkin, but the growth of their characters is much more compared to the others. Dobrev and Barkin seem simply supporting characters. The two women have without doubt a smaller role compared to the men.

Brosnan seems to have enjoyed himself in this unusual comedy role, he has some funny scenes and his thick Irish accent compliments the character.
The pace is confusional, at times, it moves way too fast, probably because of the weak storyline.
With the incredible ensemble, from the leads to the supporting characters, and the initial concept we should have laughed throughout the majority of the feature. Instead, thanks to its poor, basic, and very predictable writing there are very few laughs and chuckles but nothing more, a wasted opportunity.
It can be an enjoyable movie for a casual night or something to have on in the background but after a few weeks, it will get lost, like many movies lately, in the Netflix library.
The only smart idea is the catchy title pun, your in-law are out-laws, maybe after they thought about the title they should have put more energy and effort into the plot too.
The Out-Laws is an action comedy film directed by Tyler Spindel, written by Evan Turner and Ben Zazove, produced by Adam Sandler, Adam DeVine, and Allen Covert.
The Out-Laws is released on Netflix on July 7, 2023.
